A update for the Portal 1 Steam Beta has been released which deactivates VR mode.
I recommend disabling automatic updates for Portal so you can still play it on your Oculus Rift.

What? Why would they do that? I hope they re-enable it again soon.
I didn't even have the steam pipe beta enabled for Portal 1 yet.. Since I haven't gotten my Rift yet, ugh.. I hope it works once I do.

I don´t know, but my guess is we were not yet supposed to play Portal with Rift support.NikoKun wrote:What? Why would they do that?
They didn´t officially announce the Oculus Rift support in Portal, someone just discovered it by coincidence.
A dev might just have made that beta publicly available by accident, which lead to an unfinished product being released to the public.
Once they had noticed that, they of course removed the feature from the beta.
I think they are going to make it available once they have finished developing it.

Thanks for the warning. I made a backup of Portal folder before launching Steam. As soon as I launched it, Portal got updated and -vr wasn't working anymore, so I disabled automatic updates, exited Steam, restored the backup and now it's working again.

Is there somewhere I could download this VR-enabled version? I just got my Oculus Rift yesterday, and was really hoping to give Portal a try. I had a world record in beating it for a while... but lost the title about a year ago. Anyway, let me know if someone could provide their backup of it.

I sadly have lost my VR enabled version because of the update, if you get your hands on it please let me know, so I can play portal again in VR.DemonStrate wrote:Is there somewhere I could download this VR-enabled version? Or you could just use Vireio.
The "official" version wasn't that great and had many visual glitches.

I personally really don´t like to use Vireio because of the black bars at the top and bottom.Valez wrote:Or you could just use Vireio.

Use the Steroificator branch or the newest Vireiro. If you set the Value for FOV in the profiles to over 110 the bars are gone.
