custom organic flexible image sensor to cover OR eyecups

Post by colocolo »

this is a very 'theoritical' concept to allow eye tracking within the Rift.
it sure goes beyond Oculus capabilities but anyway i find it a good idea.
i imagine four one pixel wide flexible photodetector stripes covering the innerside eyecups of the Rift, much like a crosshair to detect eye movement and pupil diameter.
As photosensitive pixels(few microns) today are only as wide as the gap between LCD pixels these stripes would barely be noticable but yet could detect or differ the pupil from the iris via object recognition algorithms.
so if these lines would have a resolution of every one tenth of a mm one 10µm pixel you should need only a few thousand pixels to put in lines.
i think ordinary scanner have photosensitive pixel stripes in their scanner bar but they are of course not flexible.
very theoritical, but this way the future could look like.

if gyroscope packages could get small enough like this one, one could attach them to a contact lens
and track the rotation of the eye.
