I must admit I´m not very familiar with the Nexus´s specs and capabilities but as far as the contraption goes you´re well on your way to a very usable head mount
You might want to check out my build ("S3D HMD build" in the DIY forum) which is quite similar although I am using a screen with a cable while yours is "untethered" which is definitely a plus

Nice! I just built myself a OpenDive. According to this article (german), a Nexus 7 will also fit into it (although I have my doubts).
What's that app you are running that shows the room with motion sensors?
