Just came across this. Looks like it will be launching on Kickstarter in a couple days.

Interesting, good to see CodeLabs & the NUI group getting involved, but if it's basically just two PS3 cams why bother with a kickstarter?

If it's supposed to be "DIY" they could just release the new driver and CV libs to developers (and license it for commercial use)

Might be a good option if it could be adapted for head-tracking, with markers or something, well worth keeping a pseye on.

Woah! From the most recent demo video, it appears they ARE using IR LEDs to illuminate the scene:

Latency is unnoticeable from the video!

Those two things make this thing a bonafide SUPER Leap motion! And, since they claim to release the raw data, I hopefully can get my 3D point tracking solution working!

I'm just sad that it probably won't have the FoV the Leap does...

They are upgrading the lenses, so the FOV could actually be a bit higher (~160 degs): http://duo3d.com/forums/viewthread/29/

I think they're doing the shutter-sync hardware mod but each camera is still probably going to want it's own USB controller? I was planning to mount a few stripped-down PSeyes on my Rift anyway, for basic visual pass-through if nothing else, this would be so much easier. I'm sure it could do translation tracking with a few markers, or hopefully something like stereo SLAM / DTAM eventually. It will be great to have a more open alternative to the Leap, which really does seem to be a "black box" both in terms of its hardware design and their software stack... The DUO Kickstarter goes live soon - I'm in! 8-)

Would it be possible to use several of those devices, lets say one for each foot and arm? :D
