If the verge is doing it I'm sure they'll also update their site with a live stream or a link to it. Just keep checking at http://www.theverge.com and of course oculus VR. I wonder if Topolsky will be there to help lead the discussion.

Yea I sure hope it will be available for viewing after the livestream because I'll still be at work when it's happening.

It is also dinner time, on "Woman's Day", so anybody with a Russian lady friend will probably be expected to take them to dinner at a nice restaurant about that time. This holiday is bigger than Valentine's Day and Mother's day combined. So some of us may need to view it after-the-fact too...s0uL wrote:Yea I sure hope it will be available for viewing after the livestream because I'll still be at work when it's happening.

I honestly did not believe this was a thing when I first read it (I think from one of your other posts). You mean you poor bastards get to empty your pocket for your girlfriend on Feb 14, then again for here AND your mom on March 8, and then your Mom again 1-2 months later for Mother's day? Or is this like a mother's/lady's day?geekmaster wrote:It is also dinner time, on "Woman's Day", so anybody with a Russian lady friend will probably be expected to take them to dinner at a nice restaurant about that time. Either way, I have to work tonight, so I'm just as interested in finding a video after the fact. And if not, hell, I'd think there are people on these forums with the know-how to record a stream.

Even Google has been acknowledging Internation Woman's Day for years. In fact, here is the Google logo for today:hammerbot wrote:Oh yeah this is very real. And i am taking my wife out to dinner tonight.Drewbdoo wrote:I honestly did not believe this was a thing when I first read it
Notice that it has "Google" written in a "woman shaped" font.
If you hover over it with your mouse, it shows the ALT text "International Woman's Day".
So, yeah, Woman's Day is "a thing"... Forgetting about it has dire consequences, so we should thank Google for reminding us.
So, Russian geeks are SOL on this conference, until somebody posts a recording of it...

FRAPS might be able to do it, depending on what The Verge uses...I'll attempt to record it for those who don't have the time to watch it.GUNGRAVE wrote:womans day?? oculus month for me i have no idea how to record livesteam, i guess i will stay plugged on my monitor

Interesting that The Verge doesn't have a placeholder page up for the livestream. I thought it was going to be their big event at SXSW.

You don't actually HAVE a female in your life do you? Well... other than your MOM, that is... If you actually DO, then prepare for some cold hard revenge when you least expect it. Most American women do not know about Woman's Day yet, but Google is giving them a huge hint...drifter wrote:I just say her to let the dishes, she can do it tomorrow.

Don't worry, when he get's his Rift he won't need real women. It's that good.geekmaster wrote:You don't actually HAVE a female in your life do you? Well... other than your MOM, that is... Are you suggesting that VR pr0n will be the killer app for the Rift? If the Rift makes females obsolete, that bodes poorly for future generations (if they even get procreated, that is)...Parallaxis wrote:Don't worry, when he get's his Rift he won't need real women. The only way it will make females obsolete is if they are using they using the rift too...of course by the time it's possible to emulate ALL senses I'll be an old fart sitting on the front porch, yelling at kids hoverboarding across my front lawn...reminiscing about the good ol' days when human touch wasn't affiliated with the latest news story on an epidemic.

I seriously doubt that VR is going to be used for pr0n. Science and historical recreation is more likely.geekmaster wrote:Are you suggesting that VR pr0n will be the killer app for the Rift? Reminds me of what the holodeck is probably used for when the cameras are off.

Obviously they'll just have virtual children, and to increase the immersion they'll be artificially inseminated for haptic morning sickness and the game's boss: "labor."Aeroflux wrote:The only way it will make females obsolete is if they are using they using the rift too...

Nice, maybe someone could pipe the stream into VLC and record it with VLC (Geekmaster are you in the house? ), here's a tutorial for Ubuntu (might work in Win as well) http://www.tech-juice.org/2012/05/20/ho ... ls-in-vlc/Oneironaut wrote:Link is up! You should add this to the OP:

And a Video Tutorial:

It's probably a better idea than to record it with Fraps.
I can't do it today because i'm on the road

Re: Will SXSW 2013 discussion panel be streamed or recorded?
Yup, there are ways to capture the stream.
There are easy to use (but paid) apps for that, like Replay Media Catcher, and TubeDigger.
And there's also the hardcore way with rtmpdump (works on Win as well), check these discussions here and here.
I'd try that myself, but I'm going to bed now, good luck guys .

Great panel, but I think voice input would be really immersive in VR, they kind of shunned and ignored it. Voice will be integral to my setup.

Something like this will happen, like a virtual audio pointsource, where you actually have sounds coming from virtual objects or out of the mouth of the virtual character! It will change game development as well because you'd need to give textures or everything in the virtual world a sound reflecting property to get there!Direlight wrote:Great panel, but I think voice input would be really immersive in VR, they kind of shunned and ignored it. That would be very cool, "voice feedback". In the short term though you can use glovepie and trained microsoft speech to bind words to key macros.Something like this will happen, like a virtual audio pointsource, where you actually have sounds coming from virtual objects or out of the mouth of the virtual character! Example:
Saying "shotgun" presses the 3 key, thus equipping your shotgun weapon.
Another cooler example:

Re: Will SXSW 2013 discussion panel be streamed or recorded?
Well apparently FRAPS and Flash/UStream didn't get along very well. Having previously captured hours of footage for the SC campaign, I foolishly assumed this would be just as easy. FRAPS splits the video every 4GB, which has always been fine in the post processing. This time it resulted in hard cuts. Not every file, just random files... I used a popout window for the capture, but every once in a while the original would try to buffer, which resulted in a few seconds of echo. I can post the video if people still want to see it in this state.
