Oculus Rift Integration with FSX (Flight Sim)

Post by OmniAtlas »

Hi there,

Has anyone figured out how we can integrate oculus rift with FSX? Simconnect?

Right now tracking for FSX works fine with TrackIR -- is there anyway we can translate these calls for use with the rift?

I have heard NTHUSIM is bringing out a driver, but it will not support head tracking?

Thanks.

I don't know about that sim specifically, but most flight sims have the ability to bind absolute head rotation to joystick axis. It should be really easy to make a program that turns the Rift orientation into euler angles and feeds them into a virtual joystick. You might need the ability to set a scaling factor to get it 1:1 (and a centering button), but there wouldn't be any drift at least.

Flight Simulator X is supported by VorpX, including head tracking.

More information about the project can be found here: http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=16097

How does FSX look with Vorpx? Are gagues readable?

Depends on the cockpit. Smaller gauges are pretty hard to read at the Rifts resolution, but the more important ones are usually readable.

I think FreeTrack is open-source and they already seem to leverage the TrackIR hooks, so it'd be a good place to start.
