Yeah. How cool it would be if product was available at the time of the broadcast? Doesn't matter. The way it's going, there will be many similar appearances after commercial version is out.

Woah. Just when I thought I could get my head to stop spinning. I figured it would happen after seeing the first tweet, but with a completed consumer product, but if it's even possibly the home-made prototype of a development kit of a potential gaming peripheral on national television? For Virtual Reality no less? Pardon me if I
Sometimes I wonder if the mythology of Bill Gates and other garage inventors might be coming around on itself, but I haven't heard a negative syllable yet, and the first and second things I heard were John Carmack and Gabe Newell and I still try to have my doubts. Now just imagine a celebrity in a suit with a box taped to his face telling his studio audience, and the nation "wait wait you gotta see this".

No point in changing what has worked so far if they don't have to.

They do have to change eventually though, since the release version has the 7" screen, and it's not long until they have to ship it. They did change the tracker when they previewed at CES. So I don't know which they will preview now.jaybug wrote:Probably still 5.6"MrGreen wrote:The question is: 7" or 5.6"?

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
Even tho it really doesn't matter much, I sure hope they're able to show off the 7" model. If anything, as one last big show-off before shipping the dev kits, to publicly confirm they work fine. lol
At CES, they were saying the 7" model just wasn't quite ready yet, because they hadn't finished changing the lens-warping code to match the new screen size. So I wonder if that's ready to show-off yet.. hmm

Really cool! Great channel to reach more "common publicity". Eventhough many people might not know what vr is it will get some extra acknowledge through this.

The dev-kit, yeah, but I'm certainly hoping they will get down to 6 for the consumer version.Namielus wrote:You know the rift will ship with a 7" tho right?
Point is whatever reasons they had for not going with the 7inch at CES most likely still holds true.

Wouldn't it make more sense to do this when the consumer version is almost ready?

I'm not sure he's even gonna be there though. It's Josh Topolsky from The Verge that brings tech to that show once in a while.
The good news is that he turned into Oculus' biggest fanboy at CES. He mentioned he would eventually bring it up on Fallon in their podcast. I didn't expect it to be so quick though.
I'm pumped!

I'm guessing it will be a good thing to get people interested. That will get support in games... That will make the consumer product better... That will get more games better. That will get another invite after the consumer version is ready.
It's a round robin problem. We need the games to make this successful. We need it successful to get the game support.

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
I would say the big problem is done
Its been created and seems to work pretty well....The second problem is getting people to experience it....I could see a small Oculus team should traveling to Wizard Cons, Dragon cons or smaller gaming conventions to do demonstrations.
Once you get this on a kids head...they will tell their friends and so on..The demand for this tech will explode. I can't even imagine bringing this home and showing my friends...I would bet at least 30 that would wait in a line for this at midnight and I wouldn't even consider half of them hardcore gamer's.
After that... the third problem will be finding a way to produce these little guys fast enough to keep up with the exponential demand!

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
Am I the only one who smells the very beginning of a giant hype spiral just like the old good 90s?
If you're an informed developer, you already know oculus rift by this time, there really is the need to over-excite consumers on something that they'll probably see in a year from now?
What if that hype spiral forces them to release the product sooner than expected, without having sorted out the main issues?
Whats' next? The Lawnmower 3 feauturing the rift?![Woot! :woot](./images/smilies/woot.gif)

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Usually those are finished products and you don't need separate PC and separate display to show them to public. This way, they'll have to leave it to Joshua and rely on him to present it "properly".MrGreen wrote:Namielus wrote:Palmer, I dare you to repeat

I think "consumer" is then intended word for gamers version, and that is far from be ready (although I wish it'll be for this year! or at least a version most fans can tryout... I would buy it even if there is only a couple of games available...)Delryn wrote:Wouldn't it make more sense to do this when the consumer version is almost ready?
the sadly part on this public presentations is that many people (inocently) will think this hardware will be available for their current consoles!! (I doubt even for next gen wont be)

People who watch this show may see the tech and say, Oh! that looks awesome! I want one right now. And then they find out it doesn't even have a release date.3dRat wrote: I think "consumer" is then intended word for gamers version, and that is far from be ready (although I wish it'll be for this year! or at least a version most fans can tryout... However, this can generate consumer enthusiasm, and then encourage developer action.

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
AFAIK Doom was only for the kickstarters; losers like me who ordered after the end of the kickstarter have to go buy it for themselves :'(
I'll just wait for a steam sale and buy it cheap, no big deal. I would put bet that it will go on sale again when the Rifts start to ship anyway!

Weird, amazon is supposed to have all 3 versions in that listing. Found another listing.
http://www.amazon.com/Doom-3-BFG-Window ... m+3+bfg+pc
Any copy of Doom 3 bfg will work according to Nate Mitchell (I believe it was him).

It's only 14 dollars tho. As much as I like getting things for free, I don't see the big issue here.
It would have been different if all the games came in a signed box or something.

They weren't operating with order numbers back when I ordered, just a seemingly random number/letter combination.
