I wonder if three ST1080s could be combined into a 3DVS HMD. I tried looking through one of the HMZ screens from the side, but the frame got in the way. I imagined taking three of the screen and optic blocks and placing them in an open trapezoid, like a 3DVS monitor setup. Could that work? What about creating special optics that would cover all three microdisplays?

I doubt that would work, but even if it did there'd be no software to drive it (3DVS only works on Nvidia compatible 120Hz displays).

The HMZ and ST1080 are 3DV compatible.

Professional mods, but nonetheless - here they are. Shipping next month. The comfort mod is basically the same concept as the first mod in this thread but non-destructive. A bit pricey, but a good option for the lazy (myself included).

I'm glad this guy went ahead and supported the ST1080 because he had a lot of complaints about the device and the customer service and I was afraid he wasn't going to do these add-ons.

Covering the nose really puts me off of that mod. It increases the humidity the display is exposed to, and might make some people feel claustrophobic. Not the majority, but I am one of those people, I cannot stand to wear a face cover when snowboarding either.

Over the head straps are very awesome, though. All HMDs should be using them!

Not as much a mod as an accessory, I found a very compact AC -> 5V DC adapter that works as an alternate / travel adapter:

The nice part is you can extend this with a simple usb extension cable instead of having to look for a USB Micro Extension cable which is harder to find.

Another accessory I find useful, is this HDMI splitter:

My receiver at home does not handle 3D, so I use this between the PS3 and the receiver, with one output to the receiver and the other to a longer HDMI cable for use with the ST1080. I've tested and can verify 2D @ 1080p60, 3D @ 720p60, and 3D @ 1080p24.

So it unwraps and repackage the incoming 3D signal as a 2D signal for your "receiver/TV" and just acts as a pass through to your ST1080?

Thats a nice price for anything supporting 3D (usually they gouge up the price because they can).

The device is pretty simple but works well.

I have a PS3, an Onkyo receiver for switching HDMI (only works with 2D), and a projector (also 2D). This device sits in-between the PS3 and the receiver and splits the HDMI signal to both the receiver and the ST1080 controller box. When outputting 2D content, both the projector and ST1080 show the signal. When I switch to 3D content, the receiver looses handshake and only the ST1080 outputs video.

The output side has two HDMI ports with an LED for each. When a successful handshake is made, the LED corresponding to that output is lit. I use a 15 ft HDMI cable for video and the Lenmar power adapter I mentioned above with a 6ft USB-A extender and a 6ft USB-A to micro-B cable for power. That gives me ample cable runs for comfortably laying on the couch and enjoying the ST1080.

I just ordered another of the Lenmar USB chargers since the power supply that comes with the ST1080 (despite being micro USB) does not charge my cell phone. I currently just leave power plugs in the living room and the nightstand and just need to plug in the controller box and the glasses. Upgrading to another Lenmar makes this Micro USB power plug a dual use device.
