VR2000 -a NEW HMD on vrealities with FOV 40 ,contrast 400:1

Post by ancjob »

guys - vrealities selling this new HMD - VR2000 with fov 40

vrealities says "Virtual Realities introduces the next BIG STEP in HMD technology - the VR2000. The VR2000 provides the user with a wide 40 degree field of view, is Stereo 3D compatible with any video card and has a dynamic 360 degree head-tracking system. The VR2000 is compatible with Windows 7, 32 and 64 bit systems"

details here : http://www.vrealities.com/vr2000.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i first thought it was upgraded - virtual viewer 3D but the FOV 40 , contrast 400:1 amazes me - i am not too sure if vrealities mean what they say ....but specs look cool...
the resolution [1024/768 OR 800x600 i think native 800x600] is not so cool but fov 40 and contrast 400:1 , adjustable IPD also 360 head-tracking amazes me .... can it be true...

Vrealities introduced this on 30-nov 2011 i just checked their site today
VR2000 retailing for usd$1499

kinda a cool ! if anybody heard of this....

Looks good, but a bit pricy. Design is a lot like a black Z800, has the same adjustable style. Question is, is it 1024x768 or 800x600 native? And what type of stereoscopic inputs does it support?

Kinda shady they don't even list what 3D format it uses.

The VR2000 are used by Universities, Healthcare Professionals, Lockheed Martin, NASA, the United States Navy and Medical Research Teams in the U.S. and abroad.
That is a load of crap. How could it be used by all those people if it is so new? This head mount does not show up in any records on the internet, and I don't know why Lockheed would be using them. They have a massive collection of HMDs that are way better, and have the Z800 for low end applications. Maybe this is just a repackaged Z800?
any video card, turning any ANY PC GAME or APPLICATION into TRUE STEREOSCOPIC 3D!
I just can't take these people seriously. They claim the Z800 works with any ATI card in 3D, and this is just not true. They were claiming it long before IZ3D had that experimental shutter mode that sort of worked, too! And don't even get me started on the various errors across the whole site, like citing different FOV specs within the same product page.

Yep, i'm amazed they have stayed in business for so long. Guess not much competition in the HMD sales areas. They have virtually no reliable specs listed for any of their products and very little information at all really, not to mention crazy prices.

I too would like to know the basis for their ATI compatibility claims.

why pricing it so high !
even st1080 with fov 45 is just usd$799....and not a vapourware....

they 'd be realistic while pricing it...

It's nice that some companies still have enough moral grace to advertise how much their top of the line product sucks. 400:1? Really? XGA? :|

Someone needs to convince these guys to stop recycling calendars.

400:1 is actually pretty good, if they are telling the truth. The Z800 is about 200:1, and high end stuff like the NVIS SX60 is only 100:1!

Keep this in mind when comparing HMDs to TVs: TVs have their contrast ratio measured in absolutely perfect black conditions. Even a tiny bit of light reduces it greatly! When you are using a TV with a claimed 1200:1 contrast ratio in your well lit living room, the real contrast is probably closer to 200:1 or 300:1. With these HMDs, the panels themselves often have higher contrast ratios, but the optics take a toll, usually reflecting and dispersing the light.

Ah...so it's the same shtick as the comparison between static and dynamic contrast for HDTVs?

After seeing the contrast ratio go up into the millions a device with couple hundred seemed laughable. Where does that put the OLED displays of the HMZ-T1 then? I thought they were somewhere around 10000:1?

so what st1080 is only a concept HMD so far - getting into 'vaporware' territory.....and sony is 'design-flawed' and cinemizer OLED has fov 35 only so what have we ?
this is better than z800 given the contrast ratio and upto 1024x768 resolution....

i'd have paid happily usd$700 but then this is pricey...
