Blue Ray 3D movies - How to watch?

Post by 3DWolf »

How do I watch Blue Ray 3D movies from a computer? Can I use any Blue Ray DVD drive?

PowerDVD 11 (software player) says it can play these movies, but then says nothing about players, monitors, or what is supported. Considering their software cost as much as a hardware Blue Ray 3D player you'd think they would give some details. I can't buy it if I don't know what it does. Doh!

I really don't feel like buying another piece of hardware when my computer seems to have all the components already.
Anyone have any practical experience to share, recommendations, hints? Perhaps a link to a good tutorial?

You can use any blu-ray drive. Your hardware chain must be hdcp compliant in order to play retail media, so your software, graphics card, and display must support hdcp.

You have said that you have a GTX 275 and a Vizio E3D320VX, both of which should support hdcp. So all you need is the appropriate software. Unfortunately, all the options I know of are costly but should work for you. Most have free trials available so you can try before you buy. If you are in the market for a new drive, many come with OEM versions of player software that would work. Mine came with an older version of PowerDVD (8 maybe?) that had 3D added on. I am currently using 10 as I prefer it over 11 due to less bloatware functionality.

Power DVD 10 and 11 support 3D Blu-Ray, but you need the Ultra edition (its the most expensive one). They support both Nvidia 3D Vision (120Hz 3D monitors) and also Nvidia 3DTV Play (for HDMI 1.4a TVs like you have), among other things.

You may have a look at these softwares, most of them should have trials :
- Corel WinDVD Pro 2010 & Corel WinDVD Pro 11 ;
- PowerDVD 10 Ultra 3D & PowerDVD 11 Ultra from CyberLink ;
- Roxio CinePlayer® BD with 3D ;
- Total Media Theatre 3 & TotalMedia Theatre 5 from ArcSoft.

Hi, i have been using this site http://www.buyoemdownload.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for some software i bought. Already spent like over 450 dollars with them. Cyberlink powerdvd cost 30 bucks from them too. http://www.buyoemdownload.com/shop/item ... _ultra_3d/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hope you get some blu-ray 3d's running, I just got Pirates of the Carribean on stranger tides 3d. Converted it to wmv 3d, took like 6 hours but hell! wmv 3d rocks.

You'll also either need a top graphics card or a quad core computer or both.

I managed to get Blu-ray 3D working on my old spec computer with the trial edition of PowerDVD 11 but my dual core and old graphics card couldn't cope with it and it played in slow mo throughout (even in anaglyph output..lol)

You can also use decryption software like Passkey and then Siff Sucka to recompile the 3D Blu ray into a side by side MKV file that will play in Stereoscopic Player. I think thats all legal, but it's a long winded process. I did this with my two 3D Blu ray discs Resident evil and Monster House. I was a bit disappointed with the 3D depth in Resident Evil overall but Monster House (the ending at least) was better, but overall it was too much hassle to do this method. Each conversion took about 12-24 hours!

the GTX 275 supports hardware blu-ray video acceleration. his specs are fine for 3d blu-ray playback.
