Kat Hannaford — The same association that puts on the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas each year has called for manufacturers to get their acts together and support a new standards process for 3D active shutter glasses. As you know, each manufacturers' glasses are compatible with only their 3DTVs (unless worn upside-down), a fact that offers no help to buyers of the TVs.

If the CEA manages to change manufacturers' proprietary-happy trigger, in much the same way as we saw with the standardization of microUSB ports for phones, that would mean 3DTV owners could take their glasses 'round to their friends houses for a 3D movie night, provided they're active shutter of course. It would certainly save people from shelling out $100 per pair of spare glasses.

And perhaps make Vladimir Putin less-pissed that he has to wear passive glasses (pictured) when 'round his mate's house. [BusinessWire]

It'd be better if they'd talk about some improvement over the crossed polarizer crap, thats apparently devastating to luminence with plasma tv-s. And it's going to devastate OLED too.
