Viewsonic has been touting a whole range of 3D gadgets since IFA this summer, and it's now finally brought a few of them to North America. That includes the $180 3DV5 pocket camcorder, which was already released in Europe and does 720p video along with 5 megapixel stills (in both 3D and 2D), and the also-$180 3DPF8 8-inch digital photo frame, which will let you view 3D videos and photos without the need for 3D glasses. Joining those are the $330 DVP5 pocket camcorder, which isn't 3D but does pack a built-in projector, and the $150 DPF8-CAM Digital Photo Copier, which is actually an 8-inch digital photo frame with a built-in scanner to let you easily convert your snapshots to digital copies. Head on past the break for the complete press release, and hit up the gallery below for a closer look at the whole lot.

Yup - looks like someone took the aiptek i2 and slightly tweaked the outer design.
I sent this email to viewsonic sales:
hi! I'd like to inquire about the viewsonic 3dv5 handheld 3d camera
http://www.viewsonic.com/products/3dv5.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Unfortunately there are no sample videos taken using it anywhere on the site (yes, I know that to view them one needs a 3d monitor - I have one)
I'd be interested in purchasing such a product in the near future however I'd like to see some sample videos first to compare it to the aiptek i2 (do they use the same internal hardware?)

Compare the tech specs between the i2 and the 3dv5 - apart from a few mm difference in the dimensions because of the different outer shell the tech specs are the same - same battery/etc

I was also told by 3dmovieman that japan also has a rebranded version of it called the "3d sunday camcorder" but didn't find anything on google

If it is simply a re-badge, then that is pretty lame. I think we all know the i2 isn't that great of hardware. Unless Viewsonic was somehow able to fix the shortcomings with better software/firmware then I will probably be passing on this.

Here's some info on the 3D Sunday Camcorder Yuri
http://www.schaft.net/n00bs/2010/08/12235942.html
(it is in Japanese so you will have to use a translator, unless you read Japanese)
As far as I can tell from the documentation for the 3DV5 the
firmware is the same, the icons and functions look the same as the i2.
Let us know if you get confirmation one way or the other from Viewsonic.
