SSDs are quite expensive and currently are available in small disk sizes. I think about $800 of the price of the Mac Air is the SSD price.

Recently I've heard of a story about faulty SSD drives - almost frying themselves as they got to high.

Seagate may take SSD manufacturers to court as they (and I think Western Digital) have some type of patents on something related to disk manufacturing.

yeah you can get adapters to convert compactflash to ide or sata. make sure the speed is at least 233x and a popular name like scandisk
