Minox PX3D concept camera eyes-on at Photokina 2010

It took us a solid nine minutes of gawking at Minox's gilded DCC 5.1 in order to push through and locate the PX3D that premiered here at Photokina, but sadly, little was available other than the opportunity to snag a few glamor shots. The general idea is that this cutesy pocket camera will one day hit the market and capture 3D images that can then be viewed on-screen without 3D glasses. We're still under the impression that a parallax barrier panel will be required in order to witness the magic, but it's all still a mystery for now. It's still the most curious looking 3D camera that we've seen to date, so you can bet we'll be keeping you in the loop as this thing slowly crawls from prototype to profit maker.

How can this possibly be stereo with 4 cameras lined up vertically? Doesn't make sense.

Camera is probably held sideways. Looks interesting, maybe adjustable eye distance of sorts for close up or far shot settings? Capturing a 3D photo with several different eye depths at the same time would be interesting.

I can understand the 4 lenses. It probably uses a 4-view multiview screen (ie, lenticular) so that makes sense. By why have to hold the camera crooked (I mean look at the logo and the button on the top)?

Yeah, that is kinda odd, it almost seems like they have no idea what they are doing when it comes to 3D.

Must have been designed by Gizmodo writers.

Here is an explanation from the inventors of this camera :

Their videos cleary don't look much convincing, I really hope for them that they'll come with something more impressive when they ship in 2011. Too bad they didn't make a true stereo camera from this...

Reading the text is like seeing a tv-commercial and it makes it impossible for me to take this seriously
When people tries to hype up things like this it usually means that the original concept sux. There are of course exceptions but....

I watched the video (most of it anyway). Guess what? ITS BOGUS! Not 3D at all. Those guys are idiots and have no idea what the hell they are doing. Then they have the audacity to call this 3D. Fools.
