Beware of MONOVISION! an asynch method to correct eye-sight.

Post by europanorama »

Monovision is a method to adjust lacking sharpness for only one piece of the glasses you need to wear. eg. i have a sharpness gap between 30-70cm when i am wearing my glasses.
It could be possible to correct this misfunction for only one eye.
BUT, beware, you will loose your Stereo Viewing! I was told by a specialist.

The purpose with monovision is the relief of not needing to shift glasses between when you read and driving a car for instance.
Using monovision each eye is provided with a different lens-set. One eye sees only close up objects and is helpful when reading. The other eye has a different lens-set and sees only far away objects. Obviosly this destroys the stereoscopic impression. If using this for a long time i can very well imagine that the brain since it doesn't get any stereoinformation, simply "rationalize" away the stereopsis sense.
The article i've read also points out that many people are very uncomfortable trying getting used to monovision since one eye will always be "blurred".
