Wired LCD shutter glasses and S3D movies

Post by tdbone1 »

having trouble understanding what movies should appear in 3d with lcd wired shutter glasses (the old glasses) like elsa revelator and H3D.

should anaglyph movies appear in 3d or is that the wrong type of movie for these glasses?

im talking youtube videos basically.....like say i want to see the avatar clip in 3d i know i need to dload the clip (well anaglyph works right there and dont need downloaded) but do i download the anaglyph movie or is there a special type of 3d i need to look for to dload and play through nvidia 3d vision player?

what S3D type of movies work with these glassses?
are all movies compatible if played through the nvidia 3d vision player?

hows this work?

thanks

http://www.youtubedownloaderhd.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; fixes what you want to do. You need to download the clips before they're viewable though.

yea i have that app.

that wasnt my question though.

with wired lcd shutter glasses does it require a certain "type" of movie format?
does the movie have to originaly be recorded with 2 cameras offset?
does the player just take "any" movie and then offset the pictures?
does an anaglyph movie work well in a lcd shutter glasses.
there are probably 3 different s3d movies i have seen on youtube for avatar
(anaglyph, polarized and another type i think)
i mean what type of movie/clip will best work for these wired lcd shutter glasses?

The wired glasses needs being supported by a stereomovieplayer. Which inputformat that's acceptable depends on the player.

Simply said: Yes. There are 2d-3d conversionprograms today but so far the result is far worse than actually view the movie in 2d.

Using 3dtv.at's (Peter Wimmers) player you can offset the image. It's like a "form" of "adjusting convergence". However if you do this with a standard 2d-movie the movie will still look flat, even if it appears in front of or behind screendepth. In other words there will be no volumetric 3d by just shifting one image sideways. Basically the offset function of the player is to simply finetrim the image to your own like and screensize. The movie needs to be 3d to experience 3d though.

During the anaglyphconversion colorinformation is lost. You can restore some amount of it with quite some work but it'll never look close to the original. Never convert and store stereovids in anaglyph format!
Downloaded youtubevids are usual in side-by-side format though. You choose outputformat in the youtube player but the original format stored on the server is still usually side-by-side. Some users found ways to upload using interleaved stereovideos but it seems very rare. I haven't came across a single one yet except one i dl'd after a tip here.

Anaglyph is colorfiltered. Red color goes to the left eye while the green+blue goes to the right. It's of obvious reasons not a really good experience. Even if the "polarized movies" term for some crazy reason seems popular there's no such thing because the movie isn't "polarized". I'm still not clear what actually is synonymous to the "polarized movie" term. For instance there's no specific movie that supports polarized glasses because polarized glasses are needed to view 3d properly on a 3d-monitor. The glasses needs to match the monitor, not the movie....

What kind of hardwareconfiguration do you have? Nvidia 3d-vision with a supported monitor or something else? Anyway: First you need to find a player (the best one is stereoscopic player by Peter Wimmer) which supports your hardwareconfiguration (nvidias 3d-vision have their own). The shutterglasses business as is today is a complete mess though and others here on the forums know way more than i about what glasses that works with which tv/projector etc. Peter Wimmers player supports just about every inputformat (not 3d-bluray yet) so the inputformat is not crucial. It does NOT convert anaglyph movies to a full color experience due to the colorloss when converting movie to anaglyph.

ps: The elsa revelator and H3D glasses are best supported using winxp,sp2 or sp3, maximum a 7900 nvidiacard and nvidiastereodrivers. Generally lcd monitors aren't supported but there are (a very few) exceptions.
On newer rigs you can give it a shot with the iz3d drivers and playing but the shutterglasses support is poor. However i don't know if viewing stereomovies with those glasses are possible on a newer computerrig. Someone else might know better.

Here is a list of sites where you can find 3D movie clips :
Zalman : http://zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=346" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
3DGuy : http://3dguy.tv/downloads/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
3dtv.at : http://3dtv.at/Movies/Index_en.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
NVIDIA : http://www.nvidia.com/object/3D_Vision_3D_Movies.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
3D Vision Blog : http://3dvision-blog.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
biohemet.se : http://www.biohemmet.se/3dtrailers.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Kawagoe : http://stereo-world.com/index_e.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

On YouTube, there are quite a lot of 3D movie clips too, they are tagged with "yt3d:enable=true". You just need to do a search with "yt3d" in the search string and only keep movies which show two adjacent and similar images in the preview. If it's not the case, the video has been wrongly tagged.

Here is a list of yt3d videos on YouTube : http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p ... 02C0D42DB3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The only real 3D trailer for Avatar that I know of can be found there, the others are only 2D to 3D conversions : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMqcpgIlkmg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

will be playing around for a few hours (at least) with all the info you just gave me.

thanks again
