... but sadly, in reality I don't think that's ever going to happen for me. The time commitment is too big for me now, and I don't suppose private servers are very populated? My knowledge of private servers is pretty limited.
I also stopped playing WoW with the release of cataclysm, WoW VR currently is only for patch 3.3.5, which is the last patch of the WotLK.
There are a few populated retro private server out there for the Lich King, you can take a look at one of them when trying the mod.
Even if you donĀ“t have the time to play WoW again, it still is nice to just fly around and take a look at all the sights.

Once my mod is released you can relive your old days in Azeroth, in VR.

We currently are looking for someone able to code World of Warcraft UI addons.
We will need two rather simple addons, you need to be able to know how to resize, move and hide UI elements.
If you are able to help us out we will of course credit you.

If you are interested in helping us out, please send me a PM.

Here is a new video showing the progress we made on our World of Warcraft VR mod. The video shows our new launcher and improved head tracking. We now also support head tracking in menus and loading screens. The aspect ratio of the video has been changed during the uploading progress, so it will not converge properly.

Here is another video of our WoW VR mod, showing the head tracking in cinematics and cutscenes.
The uploading progress has changed the aspect ratio, so it does not converge properly.

We made some changes to the login and to the character creation screen to improve readability.
You can take a look at a image showing the difference below.

We have further reduced the latency and we have improved the headtracking some more.
The head tracking now features realistic pitch and jaw movements.

World of Warcraft VR now also supports the in-game chat, so you can communicate with other players.
The chat is hidden on default, you can press a virtual button to bring it up and to hide it again.
We also have now significantly reduced the number of set up steps.

We currently are working on supporting the party & raid system.

For reasons we can not disclose we no longer are working on the World of Warcraft VR mod, and are unable to distribute it.

That's a shame. The project seemed to be coming along quite well.

Right after they were briefed in confidence by the Oculus team that they were being acquired by Facebook and they (Blizzard) suddenly realised it was something they should be doing themselves.

... or less interestingly after someone spotted this thread.

Mmmmm, no, the Facebook thing is too recent, they haven't had time to react to that. it was probably GDC and Sony's Morpheus. If Sony's thinking about it, then game developers should be too.

My comment about the Facebook thing was meant as a joke, although the second bit about them becoming aware of what was being done was meant as the serious comment. I can see the Sony HMD potentially having a bearing as well.

sorry, sarcasm is hard to tell with just text, if only there was some sort of social VR thing available so I could see facial expressions...
