All the same, I'm glad you'll be playing your part in a more official capacity. It seems you've always been helping the progress of 3D in whatever ways you've been able, at least since I found this forum anyway.

It's good Palmer hires talented people. He's trying to start a new industry world-wide. Really hope people at Microsoft and Google standardize 6 DOF VR interface. VR could be bigger then arcades in the 80's and 90's.

Obviously Palmer's oculus rift was the first thing that brought me here. But for a while I basically tried to keep up on everything PalmerTech and you said. Your driver was the thing that made me go ahead and pre-order but then I've really loved your enthusiasm for pretty much everything. Whenever I read anything on these forums, especially if they are about some new tech I'll usually find you're posting something about how that thing is really cool or exciting.

I find techy geeky communities tend to be full of lots of negativity of fanboism. Where people try and shoot down anything. But basically all your posts are positive and its really refreshing to see that in the geek community!

So I'm pretty excited that any money I give to oculus will sort of make its way back to you

Right but that doesn't mean too much unless lots of other talented people build a community around it. Dumping open source code is a helpful seed but it is only a seed.

If cyber is able to develop it as part of his Job that is more likely to happen. If he isn't.. then its still possible but will happen differently.

If they put that in his job description then that would be awesome.

Otherwise he's done his share. The Oculus Rift is now his career. Asking him to spend his spare time coding Oculus Rift stuff is a bit harsh in my eyes.

He's done the lion's share of work and I think it would be awesome if someone took up the torch and ran with it.

He resigned active development of the driver the moment he decided to release it as open source, so the fact he is working for Oculus now doesn't change much.

I very much doubt there will ever be an official version of the driver. Let's just hope he will find the time in his free time to add further to it.
And also hope that there will be more and more useful input the more Rifts are out there. So far other have contributed too!

Well I am not going to be able to have an active development role on the driver. I will be around to help people in the community if they want to become a contributer.And I can probably make some small updates (like support of the Rift tracker) but not much more than that. It's just that I won't have the time to be working on it seriously, so I thought it was a better idea to put it in the hands of the community. I think that was the best thing for everyone.

And we are really grateful for that ... and investing the time to integrate "small updates" like the Rift tracker is something we especially appreciate
