As some of you probably have noticed the aspect ratio is off in my WoW videos.
I now got around to fixing this issue.

But fixing this issue broke the UI, Once I have fixed the UI I am going to release a new video.

Here is a new video showing the fixed aspect ratio and a bit of first person view.

I sadly have to announce this aspect ratio fix only works on older versions of World of Warcraft, meaning players on Blizzard servers have to put up with a squished view :(

Ziggurat wrote:I can remember there being a HUD (the thing you use for health and mana bar) that is either as standard or can be configured to have all your bars on the left side, and your targets bars on the right side.

I think this would be better for the rift.
I now have modified the current hud to work this way.
Also if your target is neutral his bar is yellow, and if he is hostile his bar now is red.

I should have posted this information on this thread and not started a new one....my apologies but then again some people might have found that information useful,. ill repeat it here. this mod will only support 3.3.5a for the time being due to it having a less complicated graphics engine then cataclysm and beyond. So for those of you who want to try this out to get ready for it. You need to have a fresh install of World of Warcraft 3.3.5a.

If you have your old game disks from wow, burning crusade, and wrath of the lich king, you can simpley reinstall them to a seperate folder (say c:/world of warcraft 3.3.5a ) making sure NOT to use the launcher to patch World of Warcraft after you install wrath of the lich king (around patch 3.0.1). If you do not have the game disks, you can find an installer (its legit...its actually from blizzard) and select "wrath of the lich king) do a google search and you'll find it, i wont post the link here in case of getting in trouble (even though its legit) you only need to select "wrath of the lich king" you do not have to do what i though originally and select and install each version, as wrath of the lich king will download and install all the previous ones (as its required for it to run) then what you need to do is go to a site like wowwiki and search for older patches and find downloads to get you from patch 3.01 to 3.3.5a. then you have options of finding a private server (google search..there are many who use 3.3.5a as a lot of people prefer the pre-catacyslm world) or you can do a search for "world of warcraft repack 3.3.5a" to find a server emulator to make your own private server (useful for offline) the 2nd option can be the best as you'll then be able to do things like gm mode and explore the game as you wish without worrying about getitng killed, plus with a few admin addons you can easily teleport anywhere, great for "seeing the sights" in the Rift.

again some of this info is best just done using google or there are some youtube links too but i wont post it here.

and if people are upset that i share this well. we have snes and virtual boy emulation threads here so dont see how this would be much diffrent. the final version is planned to support live offical servers...its just right now this is the easiest process to get things going. :-)

I just changed the font and it´s size in WoW so most text actually is readable while wearing the Rift.
But I have to do some more work on the tool tips to make them "VR Ready."

I now have removed all the unnecessary clutter and have optimized the tool tips for VR.

gotta say this mod is just overly complicated. it takes littearly 45 steps to get it working, then you have to run 4 other programs besides WoW to get it to work. thats a lot. its a nice concept but considering how the average user has to post the same questoin thats been posted over and over instead of taking 5 seconds to google something i doubt the average person will be able to get it working right. The thing really needs a driver injection with headtracking intigrated . thats the best solution and the easiest. but its a nice concept, but just way..way too many steps and too many programs to get it to work. if the damned guy would ever release vorpx they are shown to have wow working in the latest beta but doubt that thing will ever see the light of day.

but yeah for those who dont mind taking a lot of steps and can hopefully get it working right (i coudnt. i followed the steps but the screen looks "fat. but im sure the modders are doing the best they can with what they got. thats all you can do. but it feels like in the end its a mod that might work for some but not for others.

they need to find someone who can figure out to do a direct injection of the rendering + headtracking with just one extra program to really make things less complicated.

good luck. would love to see this working right. thanks for letting me test it out. but i think for a "general public live server" release. your going to have to make it easier.

You do know you have an early version that is not even done, don´t you?
You should understand that early stuff that isn´t released is of course incomplete and overly complicated.
And you would know I am working on an installer if you would have read any of my posts above.

The reason I told you not to talk about how it works/how you get it to work is because, the ENTIRE setup progress is going to CHANGE COMPLETELY.
But it seems like someone here forgot he is not supposed to talk about that.

Your posts create completely false expectations for the people reading this thread.
People like you are the reason many project, like VorpX are being hold back until they are perfect.

If you want something that works then don´t ask for something that is not even in alpha.

EDIT: And about your injection drivers, go ahead and use them, but don´t complain to me when your account get´s banned.

good luck, it looks like tridef 3d now has beta support for the Rift, i was able to actually view the game in 3d without it feeling odd but theres just a lot of graphical issues with the tridef driver. at the moment. (without headtracking though) .

I previously have mentioned in this thread that we have been working using Tridef 3D the entire time.
The current Oculus Rift support of Tridef is not good enough for this mod, we are going to think about using it in the final version if they are able to implement vertical shaders.
The graphical issues you are experiencing with the driver come from the wrong 3D settings you are using, you should create your own for the Rift.
The tridef uses mouse look so they are NEVER going to have head tracking support for WoW.

We still are working on this and think our mod is going to be way superior than the experience tridef is delivering right now.

The mod is going to have the following features that tridef does not support (for WoW at least.)

-head tracking decoupled from your view
-realistic scaling
-full body awareness
-A FOV just right for the Rift
-A VR UI that you actually can read whie wearing the Rift.

Sorry for not posting here/making new videos over the last few weeks.
We still are working on this and are trying to make this mod perfect.
I right now am making a new video showing the Orc starting area and a bit of leveling.
Once the video is done, I am going to post it here. (Which properly is going to be today or tomorrow.)

It seems like in the progress of uploading or rendering the video, the aspect ratio changed.
This makes the video unable to properly converge for some people.

In the end I want to release my mod for "educational purposes only" so I won´t get into any problems with Blizzard.
That is why I don´t think suggesting a private server is a wise choice.

I might use your pics later for the launcher or something like that.

Hey there, it looks like we won´t be able to get the beta version of our mod out by the time we expected to.
The reason for us not being able to finish the beta in time is because this "real life" is stealing all of our time away.^^
Because of that we are looking for some help, to get an beta version of WoW VR finished up.

We are looking for someone with experience in working with visual c++ and/or DirectX.
If you think you are the right person for the job, please send me a PM.

The things that we still have to add/do for a beta release are:

- Installer
- Launcher
- Fixing the bug that one eye lags 1 frame behind the other one
- Coding Xbox 360 controller support into WoW_VR.exe (We currently are using Xpadder.)
- Making analogue movements possible using Xbox 360 pad sticks as input.
- Disable all mouse interactions with camera/character movements

If we decide you are the right person to help us out we are going to provide you with the mod, source code, and all the information you need about the mod.

-Marulu

P.S. We of course are going to credit everyone who is willing to work on the mod with us.

Well that doesn´t mean my mod won´t get you banned.
This post does only refers to VorpX, which only outputs it in 3D with shaders.
While our mod modifies the entirety of the game.

For example to get head tracking you would have to either mess with the DirectX files of WoW or hack it´s memory.
Both of these things are against blizzards terms of service.

We also use some other hacks, for example to adjust the FOV to fit the Rift
Other hacks which have been made just to change the FOV in the past have gotten players banned.
So why should this in my mod be any different?

too bad companies don't have easy communication with their customers.

A company would do well to give you hooks to get the information you need, without hacking the system... so...you don't hack their system. Their modding is pretty amazing so I know they have their hearts in the right place, but they have to guess what everyone would possibly want.

Anyway, stopped playing wow years ago... this is making me want to start up again. Too many games... too many kids... not enough time.

Looks nice. Nostalgia, and a dislike of what WoW is now, gives me a strong urge to go and play vanilla or Burning Crusade again....
... but sadly, in reality I don't think that's ever going to happen for me. The time commitment is too big for me now, and I don't suppose private servers are very populated? My knowledge of private servers is pretty limited.
