The topic was Immersipalooza...not boobapalooza (though I expect that would be a bigger event).

I'd go with VRCon or VirCon personally.

I'd vote VRCon, though pronounced as vircon. I can only assume it would be in California.

A good time would be in the late summer after comic con. That way I'll already be in town for SPIE optics and photonic conference. :D

I'd choose RiftCon like QuakeCon. Id pay for QuakeCon and Quake is Id but it's not all about Quake since it showcases all kinds of games and hardware in developlement from companies invovled with ZeniMax.

In the same sense if Oculus are paying for the Convention then since the Rift is Oculus i'd call it RiftCon even though it would showcase all kinds of hardware and software in developement from companies involved with VR and not just to do with the Rift

Plus no one will ever forget the Rift was the gensis of it all then :D

I really think Rift or VR based names are a bad idea. Even though Oculus is a great catalyst, it's a tiny part of a much bigger market to come. Think big and long term. Plan for an event that sees a future filled with VR, AR, gesture technologies, etc. etc.

I like "Immersi(ve)" names because that covers everything. I was also looking at Immersi-Con, but Immersipalooza is just a lot more fun sounding. I don't want a name that will be appealing to just rocket scientist VR experts. I want something fun; an event that people look forward to attending, and something only passionate gamers and immersive-tech enthusiasts can make happen.

Would be nice to have some stats a bit more detailed, just for curiosity :)
There are at least three going to Australia (2 to Adelaide, 1 to Western Australia).

No word yet on how it's going in Korea where Oculus has an office.

Really not feeling the immersipalooza name. It feels like a simpsons episode. Its needs a more serious title. VRCon is much better.

If the Rift is the cornerstone of the convention, and if furthermore Oculus organize it, then why not RiftCon, or OculusCon (or PalmerFest  )

Who said anything about Oculus organizing this event?!??

Yes, I'm sure they would be an important part of it; a cornerstone even. However, this is about something much bigger. This is visualizing an industry, not just a single product.

Would MTBS still be around if we called it "Meant to be Zee" when iZ3D was our first sponsor?!? Heck no. Think big, think beyond Oculus, and think limitless potential.

It feels like a simpsons episode. Its needs a more serious title. VRCon is much better.
That's the whole point. It should be a fun name. I suppose we could call it MTBS' Annual VR Bash, but that isn't really a title I don't think. I also want to avoid the VR limitation.

Immersipalooza: MTBS' Annual VR Bash

That might be cool....

I get in trouble for making fun names for product all the time. As a matter of fact, how it tends to work in commercial enterprise..is..if it is not actually fully rude (think "schitt" amps and dacs for headphones) and humorous, it won't work. IMO and IME...It harms more than helps things. Schitt managed to make a company out of the one word, as it was potent enough.

Neil, it sounds as if you'd be happy to wake up one morning living inside of a Monty Python skit (I would), but the rest of the world does not agree with such sentiment, no matter how much they laugh along.

It also has to be built so it is easy to remember. so it remembers itself. It has to be unique but simple. since most single words are taken, then it might have a proper one word title but the 'slang' that people call it, might be two words in a unique arrangement. (or the opposite of that) Unique abbreviations, slang, and acronyms. Each being easy to remember, unique, and meaningful.

Internet search patterns, how people think/feel/imagine, how they remember, how those words are normally used, and so on. All critera have to be met, simultaneously.

It is more difficult than most consider it to be.

there are a few old lines about publicity which amply illustrate the solution and the problem:

"I don't care what they say about me..as long as they say about me."
"All press...is good press"

it's all about staying in people's minds.

The 'oculus rift' and the eye logo are a well thought out set. Very well done, actually. As a set, they are a well designed bit of effective gasoline for starting the fire of publicity. They've done the ignition stage well, and will serve well in taking things to a raging inferno.

Lots of shows morph into something they didn't start out as being. Comicon is barely about comics nowadays.

Immersipalooza is vague enough where I think it's a good name in that regard.

My biggest concern is that "palooza" is currently tacked onto things as sort of a joke. I think it's a bit worn out.

I'd choose Immersicon over that.

Lawnmowermancon?

The Seen? Or Just Seen? Seen 2013 has a nice ring! Would give you guys a bit of credit while being vague enough where it could grow however it wants.

I like the idea, but my 2 cents, Immersipalooza sounds like a bunch of hippies smoking pot and taking all other sorts of drugs while wearing an HMD. Not that there's anything wrong with that except that investors might not take such an event as seriously as a less 'fun' name such as Immersicon.

While OculusVR is certainly at the forefront of visual immersion the general theme of Immersion suggests a symposium not just for HMDs but rather invites exactly what is now needed, entrepreneurs to introduce new control peripherals in order to best use our Rifts.

Ok. If you really don't like the name Immersipalooza, we can go with something else. I'm not married to it...though it does keep me up at night. I have a better idea! Immersipalooza could be an event inside Immersicon! Now THAT would be cool.

I also reserved Immersicon which could work. The Seen concept is a good idea too, but it might be harder to work with.

I think we can do a lot wit the word Immersicon to make it visually interesting and I already took steps around this. I was hesitant because immersicon can easily be read as Immers-ICON, so we have to be cautious how we frame it.

Better?

I like "Seen", but it's too ambiguous, and it will get lost in searches.

Neilggraph? Simulated Worlds Expo? Ontological Crisis Center? Reality Renaissance? Palmerpalooza?

...The Matrix?

I like ConVRge too, but the domain registration is easier with the other options.

ConVRge is more original and also sounds like something people will remember.

I like it, ConVRgence especially. It sounds complete and the VR is better centered in the word. I could even imagine the logo being the anaglyph Cyan and Red meeting together as ghost text behind just plain white text. If viewed through anaglyph glasses, it's 3D! Hahaha

Yeah, I'm liking ConVRge. Much better than the palooza thing. I think there is just too much association with drugs and stuff that really has no place at a VR conference.

Might want to throw a quick courtesy email to Joshua Topolsky of the Verge. Not necessary, to be sure, but he's pretty cuckoo for the Rift. Seems to be making sure the Verge is on top of any press they do.

I think we have a winner.

"ConVRge". We could do "ConveVRgence" or "ConVRged", but I like that ConVRge is an action; it's telling people do so something.

Does anyone have a preference?

I don't think it's worth fighting over. We got convrge.net, and that COM URL was squatted on since 2011. If someone tries to copycat, we have the thread here demonstrating the thought process, etc. Do you really think it's worth bidding on?
