Looks like they're remaking eXistenZ with Jude Law, Mike Tyson, and Jimmy Fallon. Featuring a brand new soundtrack by Michael Bolton and special effects by a start-up called Oculus.

I hope they try to get Jude Law to plug the Rift into his belly button or something.

A douchey talk show. How lame. Once these sheeple find out the Rift is not an iphone accessory there will be some serious outrage on the twitters.

Well, he is one of the more technologically informed and in tune with the Internet hosts out there, however, I still agree with your general description. His best show(and only one I have watched recently) was the one he did during hurricane Sandy when he didn't have an audience and only interacted with his guests, the band and production crew. Probably the most natural talk show I'd ever seen versus the studio audience garbage.Okta wrote:A douchey talk show. How lame. Sorry sheeple. They said its mobile support is android only, so far. But that's Apple's fault, not Oculus'. And it needs a USB port, so it won't work on most Android phones.Okta wrote:A douchey talk show. How lame. Android phones usually have mini-usb. I've downloaded videos off a phone to my pc. The problem is only some have HDMI out. More common on tablets.

I wonder if the Oculus Rift would work on animals. They'd have to have eyes that face forwards, a suitable IPD, RGB vision, the ability to focus at infinity, and not be too eagle-eyed. But I reckon you could get an animal to think it was real.

The "riftless ones" are waiting for the consumer version. The ones with the Rift Dev Kits are hacker sheeple (i.e. the "virtual black sheep" of the herd). Obviously, their avatars have black wool...oculusfan wrote:... Lmao there's a smattering of sheep who did not get a rift. I feel bad for them.

I would love to see if my GSD reacted to a HMD. One thing i have observed is that dogs rarely take notice of the TV screen, even a big one. They only seem to notice the sounds if there is a dog barking or something.
Seriously this could be a future training tool, rehabilitation tool for animals.

When we had cats, they would go nuts trying to catch birds or fish on TV during a nature program. They chase lasers too. A cat-sized mini Rift would be a great cat herding tool. They could chase virtual prey.Okta wrote:... Seriously this could be a future training tool, rehabilitation tool for animals.
Dogs are more into smell than motion... Now if you had a virtual "something nasty to sniff or roll in" you would be all set in the canine virtual entertainment department.

I have dogs with the same IPD as me, but their eyes do not converge in the same way.2EyeGuy wrote:I wonder if the Oculus Rift would work on animals. However, I would still like to give it a try.
The reason being that especially one of the dogs enjoy watching movies on the big screen, and her favorite is the animated film Fantastic mr. Fox.
Anyway I am going to try it for a second just to see how they react (by simply holding it to their face)

I kinda like Jimmy Fallon tbh...He does some fun musical sketches.
Looking forward to the episode.
I hope I'm not overhyping myself with all the videos, I wonder how many hours worth of oculus related videos I've watched ><

Haha 2EyeGuy @ geekmaster, I remember years back (pre virtuality even) talking with a friend about strapping goggles onto his dog and letting them into a VR where they can both fly and chase virtual rabbits etc haha.
Its an amusing idea. I agree though that it could be a good training tool, just like it can be for humans.

I red that Jimmy Fallon has a channel in youtube so the show would be there later.
Probably after the show the demand for de devkit will be a bestseller (altough probably enthusiast more than gamdevs)
if I wait for the show to by my devkit it will be delivered about October...

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
I find the lack of 7" support worrisome.
We will be receiving our kits in a few weeks. Don't you think they'd have working prototypes by now?
For our programmer friends here: Could the reprogramming of the warping software be an issue that would take MONTHS to change from 6" to 7"? You'd think it would be something like changing a variable.

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume, that the 7" model requires IPD adjustments for every wearer, because of the bigger screen size. This would make it rather hard to showcase, because you'd have to adjust the HMD for every user.

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
No... afaik, the screen change necessitated that quite different images be sent to each eye. I'm not talking about stereo - I mean that some objects that are in left eye are not in the right eye's field of vision, and vice-versa. There is not 1:1 overlap. Hopefully someone can give a better explanation or pictures. It's not just "changing a variable"; there is huge potential impact. I'm not at all surprised it's taking a while to get Unreal Engine / Unity support this kind of change.Pingles wrote:For our programmer friends here: Could the reprogramming of the warping software be an issue that would take MONTHS to change from 6" to 7"?
