My stream dropped right after the Blackberry. Anyone uploading it to YouTube?

Admittedly, that television target audience and Oculus target market is quite divergent. The chat was interesting.....

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
They listed it early in the lineup, and then we had to wait through all those darned TV commercial ads to see a brief demo at the very end?
Good to hear "It's a game changer", but not much new here. Just a wider audience. But hopefully there was enough info provided to bring interested newcomers here, if they can find us...

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
Short, but pretty good. I like the way they presented the game as full screen (not the 2-eye 3D warped view) with just a small view of Jimmy looking around, easier for the audience + people watching at home to get the concept, I think.

The presenter ate his own time. Just a touch off, he was.

It's ridiculous that they showed the visine ad 5 minutes before showing the rift..

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
Well, that was the worst Rift review yet. This show is terrible. I can't believe I wasted an hour watching that. They liked the Rift, but they didn't even tell anyone anything about it. And that stretched-wide fullscreen view doesn't make it look good.
There are much better shows like Good Game or Good Game Spawn Point that could do it justice, and you should get them to demo it instead.

Yeah, the joking about the sweaty hands went on a bit too long.. -_-
But at least Jimmy liked it, and when they showed what he was seeing, you could hear the audience gasping! Thought that was cool. heh

I had higher expectations and the fragment was very short, but at least a large audience has now seen the Rift. I liked that Jimmy said "everyone is talking about this"; he might be proven right sooner than we think.

Maybe I care rift too much, but Jimmy seem to just give a "okay yes that's good see Im still the man with the latest tech now please take that thing off me so everybody can see my smile and move the fuk on you nerd" time.
Oculus rift,it's here,I'm there.

Word of the day is "market exposure". Sorry for you guys who were expecting a hot scoop or huge laughs. They're on strict time. I think the message went across, VR is out there now. Now GDC, that's something to stay up late for.

In case you missed it, here is the breakdown of what happened:
- 2 minutes of talking about sweaty hands / sexual inuendo
- 1.5 minutes of Blackberry phone demo
- 1 minute razer tablet demo (Jimmy crashes into wall)
- 1 minute rift demo
Jimmy did say "This is a gamechanger" though.

Yes, I just wanted him to say that it felt like he was there because a good portion of his TV audience won't get that idea from their point of view - a flat, 2d screen. It just won't register.oculusfan wrote:In case you missed it, here is the breakdown of what happened:

But, it is a good advertisement none the less. Plus, they showed the VR at the end, which while it got the least amount of time, at least it should be more memorable since it was shown LAST (that does matter actually).

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
Considering how bad the rest of the show was, I think everyone in the audience would have preferred more time with the Rift and less time with the rest of the show. Boring guests, bad jokes, and the host looking nervous weren't worth cutting into the Rift's time.

I think you guys might have been expecting a bit much. This wasn't supposed to be a review, it was only ever going to be a short tech demo basically. One minute is about the best we can hope for on network TV.

I was thinking back to the Kinect demo that Jimmy did way back when Kinect was still in beta stages. That got a lot more screentime. About twice as much as the entire tech segment on this episode.superbike81 wrote:I think you guys might have been expecting a bit much. Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
It definitely had some issues. Didn't mention it's stereoscopic 3D, didn't mention the field of view, looked like a huge snowflake or something was stuck in the middle of the image at one point (that was odd). As soon as Josh would start saying something Jimmy would start talking instead. Either way people did seem pretty impressed with it. It could have been a much better coming out but I think it was still an effective demo

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
The fact that it was a short segment doesn't matter.
Value is value. If the Rift delivers, that's all that really matters in the end.
Besides, it's not necessary to get a huge amount of people interested in it, right now, with the consumer version off in the distance.

Regardless of how good or crappy the show is, it's pretty amazing that the Rift was on NATIONAL TELEVISION! Congrats on this, Palmer & Co.
Seriously, just several months ago Palmer was wondering if he would be able to sell more than 100 units. This is pretty amazing.

It's possible that the Verge maybe shows some backstage stuff with Questlove. Google trends will be interesting, to see the impact of the show and people googling the name.superbike81 wrote:I think you guys might have been expecting a bit much. The tracking did look pretty tight. I wonder if they have made some improvements on that since CES

If you've watched it on TV, maybe because you watch it in 60fps instead 30 on youtube.SartreFan wrote:The tracking did look pretty tight. I wonder if they have made some improvements on that since CES

60fps TV?... Think you might be confusing fps with screen refresh rate there...STRZ wrote:If you've watched it on TV, maybe because you watch it in 60fps instead 30 on youtube.SartreFan wrote:The tracking did look pretty tight. I wonder if they have made some improvements on that since CES

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
Frame rate (also known as frame frequency) is the frequency (rate) at which an imaging device produces unique consecutive images called frames. The term applies equally well to film and video cameras, computer graphics, and motion capture systems. Frame rate is most often expressed in frames per second (FPS) and is also expressed in progressive scan monitors as hertz (Hz).Fluke wrote:60fps TV?... Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
Having a 120Hz TV doesn't automatically mean Jimmy Fallon is being displayed at 120fps. It depends on the source. Same goes for 60fps/Hz.STRZ wrote:Frame rate (also known as frame frequency) is the frequency (rate) at which an imaging device produces unique consecutive images called frames. The refresh rate of your screen is independent of the source's fps.
That is unless the US has 60fps digital TV, but as far as I remember its 29.97 or something.

Higher quality video here:
http://thevrhq.com/vrhq/2013/1/31/oculu ... allon.html
I dunno what people were expecting, that Late Night would spend half the show on the rift?
I knew it would be a quick demo, and I though it went pretty well, with Jimmy being all "Whooaaaa" and the audience beeing all "Oooohhhhh".

Television is interlaced. 1080i NTSC has temporal resolution of 59.94 fields per second and motion looks similar to 60 FPS.Diorama wrote: That is unless the US has 60fps digital TV, but as far as I remember its 29.97 or something.

Re: Rift on the Jimmy Fallon Show Is Confirmed
Yup, nothing but positive goodness right there! It was short BUT it got across what the device is and the kind of reaction it generates without having to say much at all. And that simplicity is worth its weight in gold really.
The audience even seemed impressed.
