At Last! (damn you palmer and your flat promises!
)
Mine arrived today much to my surprise! Very late order, the day after KS stopped.
This has mostly been said... but hey.
First impressions are WOW that's a lot of stuff in a wicked box. Could have been longer, more flexible but generally WOW! (production should have detachable controller with at least an potion for longer cords (not so easy on LVDS I know
)
Fired it up on my rig - DAMN lost my DP2HDMI adapter so gave up a screen and mirrored for ease of setup.
We need a generic IPD adjust that everyone uses.
Took a while to get comfy viewings, the lenses are seem smaller than I have been using and so harder to get the perfect view - though this could be due to the fit all nature. My fitted lenses were dirty on the inside, so needed to take out and clean wit the provided cloth. awesome touch. and required. (the cloth)
Motion blur - meh - seems worse that the 5's but it aint bad. Well actually it's really bad - but hey.
Screen door - meh - seen it worse. Needs to be better.
FOV - Very good - though still very ski-gogly. Lenses do need to be bigger.
Motion... Game changer. That is what it is about, right there. POW. POW X2. Roll on mark 2.
Best demos: They are all good; but first wowza moment was with Titans of Space. Cockpit stuff or a local 3d focus really makes it good. Museum of the Microstar is fabulous and an A for production. But best fun has been with helihell2 so far.... just lovely.
At the price point it's the best HMD the world has ever seen. I'd say it was in the top 5% of what I have experienced from a headset; what makes it is the support and the tracker. What sealed the deal was the package.
Cheers fellas. Can't wait to get my hands dirty.
Edit: HL2 is visually awesome... controls are a whole new game now..
