Ghosting Test Picture

Post by flexy »

since i am experimenting with my 3D-Ready Samsung and my shutter glasses i made a "3D Ghosting" test image.

The image is pretty simple: 5 vertical gray colored bars on 5 horizontal gray bars as background, with the vertical bars in the second picture somewhat off to simulate a 3D effect.

The picture easily shows what color combinations and 3d systems ghost..and it might help in adjusting your TV/monitor etc.

I made the picture w/ PaintShop Pro, and you can load them eg. with "StereoPhoto Maker"

So..in StereoPhoto Maker select "open LeftRight images", select the LEFT one, and it automatically asks you whether to load the RIGHT one automatically.

In a perfect 3D world, you would just see 5 bars and no ghosting whatsoever.

I am stil waiting for my IOD glasses, on my Samsung Plasma with the ED wireless shutters i get about the SAME ghosting as using StereoPhoto Maker and displaying it as anaglyph on my PC monitor.

Add: Click on above links, and in your browser click "Save As..." and save those two images to a folder on your PC.

I hope its of some use.

Add: HUGE potential for improvement...i might replace the vert bars with something else

That seems like a pretty solid test. Would a version with colored bars or a rainbow background make any difference?

i thought about it..but i think it doesnt matter too much. It would just be more like a "fine-tuned" version, to see with what color combinations ghosting appears, but for general testing of a 3D method (which creates a stereo picture from two different pictures/sources) the gray should be ok.

Have you already tested with the 3D image mask PNGs on DLP.com? Just in case you haven't:

well i found the white paper desribing the method and how to apply those as masks in photoshop.

But since i use stereophoto maker, it doesnt really matter since it uses those masks properly already, i assume.
