I think 4.5 might be too small for a Rift style HMD, but I'm sure people could find some use.

Yes, this kinds of lcds it's a little small for HMD. But the resolution is 1280*800.
However, some friends are still want to use this kinds of screen for HMD.

Two of them side-by-side in portrait mode should be around the same width than the 5.6" Vitrolight display I think. I wonder if with a LVDS <-> MIPI connector they could be usable with standard boards ?
That would make a 1600x1280 one-screen equivalent for an even lower cost than the 1280x800 HV056WX1-100 ($100 vs $125 resp.).
There would be other problems to handle like screens synchronization but that looks interesting anyway.

Hi Karen,
that's a nice find !
inbetween that has CSI input and MIPI(DSI) output for the panels
also for HDMI > CSI there is IC from Toshiba TC358743 (HDMI to Camera Interface CSI-2)
so that could work. I think the pandaboard can also do the synchronization, partial overlap and the headtracking.
Best regards

I'm pretty sure a 240x240 1.54" display isn't all that useful for VR.
Do these friends also happen to be employed at samfong?karenpeng wrote: Yes, this kinds of lcds it's a little small for HMD. But the resolution is 1280*800.

Even the Virtual Boy had a higher resolution!

VR, maybe not. But it could be useful in a wearable computer, or as an add-on display to another mobile device.

Reading the comments on the source site it looks fake to me, W8 doesn't even support 1080p and one of the models on the photo is an older one with only a 800x480 resolution.
