8800GTS Group Buy possibility: 5 for $89 each

Post by nubie »

I bought a single card from them and the price with shipping is ~$108 for basic UPS shipping

If you go for their group buy it is $425 + $20 S&H for 5 of them! That is $89 apiece for 5 cards!!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0239908963

I guess that isn't so much cheaper than the price of the single card: $93.81 + $15 s&h, but I just bought one of the single auctions, and it looks like someone just bought the other.

The 8800GS is a better "mainstream" or "non S3D winXP" deal, it comes in around $100 brand new with a rebate, is 65nm G92 (same as 8800GT/GTS 9600GT 256mb/512mb), and the driver support just isn't there for XP. 9600GT is $110 after a rebate at newegg (still have to pay tax and shipping sometimes though)

I am not interested in doing a group buy, this is just informational if somebody wants to do it. Or needs 5 of them :D, or wants to re-sell them, or build them into systems (they look like Gateway OEM stock).

If the market price on the new cards goes down any further the price on these can only drop. I am hoping this will let me finally upgrade my 1 and 1/2 year old 7900GS in my main system and keep the 3D. On a related note there is a 240-day free trial of Windows Server 2008 on MS download. (60-day, can be re-enabled 3 times), this comes with Aero and DX10 (must install "desktop experience" package to get WMPlayer 11 and Aero). Steer away from the 64-bit version, you want to DL the 1.9GB DVD ISO for x86 processors. So I can give Vista gaming a go again (last time was a MSDN student copy a year ago, no games out so I re-formatted, didn't know it was a single activation :( ).

I just can't believe that 8800 tech is now available for under $100, who would have thought it would be so soon. Hurry up AMD, build a better card and make the prices even lower :D
CAVE, see what all the fuss is about:

Maybe Nvidia is throwing their cards out, so noone buys ATI/amd anymore and they are the monopolist with graphics cards - and double the prices...

Loose a few$ now and make a fortune next year :)

Sounds like a great strat for N****a but not for US
