capturing gaming stereo video side-by-side

Post by BlackShark »

Hello everyone.
I've tried to capture a video of me playing in stereo anaglyph mode with the iZ3D driver.
I used fraps to record the anaglyph output.

It works quite well. Unfortunately, it's impossible to compress the anaglyph video without causing massive ghosting.
I've done a try with unreal tournament 3 footage : here http://www.vimeo.com/853214
(no wonder that flash ruins most of the image quality, but the downloadable version is what i'm really interested about)

So now i'm trying a different approach : the side-by-side capture.
I noticed that when i take a screenshot, the iZ3D driver captures the screenshot in side-by-side full colour jps. Even if i'm playing in anaglyph mode.

So i was wondering if there was any way to record a video in side-by-side mode while playing in anaglyph ?

I emailed FRAPS about this problem (My second screen is full of garbage and weird colors), they said that they weren't planning on support for it.

You can ask them again (it has been a year), but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

It seems simple, but I guess Fraps can't figure out how Dual VGA 3D stereo works.

I think Carl Kenner's modified AssaultCube should do fine as it works in Horizontal Spread mode that makes two monitors into a single virtual one (that is extra wide). This is a native 3D supporting game though.

OK, Carl Kenner's native 3D Assaultcube mod let me capture a flawless side by side (on a socket 754 Athlon64 1.8Ghz with 512mb of ram and a 64mb gF Ti4200 no less!)

I don't know about regular games, I don't think that Fraps recognizes 3D (it is technically a hack after all, when will the OS feature support for 3D!?!)
