Hi everyone, I have been looking at 3d for a while now and I was planning on getting a 3d monitor to play games on, but I can't decide what monitor to get! I ruled out active because of the high price, so I'm looking at different passive 3d monitors and I wanted to know if anyone had them so that they could give me a review of it.

The first monitor I was was the LG Flatron D2342P
http://www.amazon.com/LG-D2342P-PN-23-I ... B004WK3R4U

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824005254

The second was the AOC e2352Phz
http://www.amazon.com/23-Wide-LCD-Black ... B005LORQGG

http://www.aocmonitorap.com/anz/monitor_302.php

And the third was the HP 2311gt
http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/disp ... AA%2523ABA

Which one is the best to get? And what are the pros and cons of each of them? I am also sorta on a budget but I am really looking for quality.

Calm down, man, it has not even been 24 hours. Bumping etiquette is usually to wait till your topic has gone down the list a bit where people cannot see it anymore, at no point has your topic dropped below the 3rd topic in this forum.

I would go with the LG, if only because it has the longest track record. I have used one before, and the quality was really good for a passive display.

Sorry, been busy the past few days with RL stuff. Probably all of those monitors will be similar quality. Granted I have not seen any of them, but I do have a Zalman monitor (which is also FPR-based). I'd probably go with the LG only because more people have it, and there will be better community support. But the AOC one looks interesting, hadn't seen it before. If you have some time, check this (somewhat long) thread about the LG passive monitor:

Ok thanks for the input. I originally saw the LG one and I heard both good and bad reviews about it so I looked for other options that might be better, but I'll do some more research.

One more quick question: As I have been reading about 3d over the past few days, I have been noticing that it seems you have to have an HDMI 1.4a compatible graphics card to use 3d. Is this true? I have a Radeon HD 4850 X2 2gb with 4 DVI slots and I don't think it is compatible with 1.4a, but with Iz3d does it work?

You need AMD 5000 series and above (some 6000 or above for 3D Blu-Ray ) or Nvidia 200 series or above (400 of above for 3D Blu-Ray).

So I can't actually use a 3d monitor in my current state? I used to have a 3870, and when using the Iz3d on interlaced it worked even though I didn't have a 3d monitor, I just thought that the monitor would be polarized for that same demo image and so it would be in 3d.

The reason I can't test it now with the 4850 is because my iz3d trial expired, but I thought from before that the same basic concept still applies.

Ah yes, sorry. What I said only applies if you want to use the AMD HD3D output. If you just output directly to interlaced you should be able to use any type of GPU.

Ah ok. Yeah what I was planning on doing was basically using the Iz3d driver/tridef to convert the games into 3d on the spot and I would also watch videos in 3d on youtube or whatnot.

The LG monitors come packaged with the Tridef driver too. I have played Tiger Woods 08 with it and it looks great.

Is tridef like iz3d? Or is one better than the other? I haven't used Tridef so I wouldn't know.

Yep...I've used the free anaglyph iz3D driver and they pretty much do the same job.

Do these drivers actually render the new 3D side on the fly as you play the game? That's pretty impressive if it does.

I think so, you can change the separation and convergence on the fly so I would say yes.
