HDMI 1.3 supports 3d(mainly just pc)
1.4 is consoles/recievers/blu ray players.
THIS DEVICE IS HDMI 1.3. Check 3dvisionblog.com. They are "also working on a hdmi 1.4 device for the future"

That just doesn't make sense. They were demoing the unit with a PS3, and specifically mentioned watching Blu-Rays. That means HDMI 1.4a.

Re: ST1080, a 1080p consumer HMD.
Right, that threw me for a loop too. The PS3 was actually the very first HDMIv1.3 product on the market, but through firmware updates it's able to output 3D video via HDMI even though it's not actually HDMIv1.4 silicon.
My guess on this is that having an HDMIv1.4 compliant part means that support for all HDMIv1.4 video modes is mandatory whereas have a HDMIv1.3a compliant part would allow you to support additional video modes besides those required in HDMIv1.3a. Then again, I could be off on that one.

It would be a joke if this thing wasn't 3D.

These guys are sounding better and better. If this is released at the price point they are talking about, I'll probably buy one instead of the HMZ-T1! It sounds as though they have put some thought into it. Especially like the way they were talking about a big exit pupil...

In Neil's interview the rep divulged that the 1080p displays come from rear projection TV's they build and they realised the use in a HMD.

Allright, if it only support 720p 3d when gaming then i'll go definitively with the Sony first, thanks for the information. But i won't miss the 4k HMD when it's out, that's for sure

I have also been extremely skeptical about this product but it's looking much more interesting now - more interesting than the Sony unit to me. Let's see what improvements Sony can make this year.

That was my initial impression as well, but the LCoS displays are controlled using the external controller box (or so I understand). So while we do not currently have 1080P 3D @ 60Hz available, this is technically possible with the ST1080 if they can manage to upgrade the controller using 300MHz HDMI chips. This seems to be a possible upgrade path without having to buy an entirely new HMD.STRZ wrote:Allright, if it only support 720p 3d when gaming then i'll go definitively with the Sony first, thanks for the information. If they decide to make it upgradeable i'd consider it. I hope seeing it at CEBIT to try it out.love2scoot wrote:That was my initial impression as well, but the LCoS displays are controlled using the external controller box (or so I understand). Infinite Screen for a scrolling virtual desktop of infinite resolution on Windows 7. Combine with a headtracker on an HMD for total immersion in a huge desktop environment.

Re: ST1080, a 1080p consumer HMD.
That's a great find! I think low resolution units in particular could benefit from this. Why not use a 800x600 HMD with tracker to view virtual 4K resolution desktop? Sure it doesn't make sense for gaming, but it could work for desktop usage.Synexious wrote:Infinite Screen for a scrolling virtual desktop of infinite resolution on Windows 7. Re: ST1080, a 1080p consumer HMD.
Yeah, I just posted in another thread that this actually came with my Z800. I have no use for it however... although, maybe i should take another look, since it might allow me to match my other monitors resolution and avoid windows sizing off my Z800 screen.
