Increase throw distance of Acer DLP H5360 projector

Post by dennisvanduijn »

Hi folks

I hope someone could help me out with the problem I currently have.
I recently bought an Acer H5360 3D Projector to use in a Home Theater setup. I thought it would be easy to just swap it with my Sanyo PLV-Z5, but it doesn’t work like that. The Acer appears to be a short throw projector while the Sanyo is a long throw one, very versatile with lens shift and all.
Now, I would like to lengthen the throw distance of the Acer, just to keep the current setup.

I figured out some options how to solve my problem, but I may have missed one.
- use a converter lens (which to use is unknown to me)
- buy a bigger screen (expensive and unpractical to me)
- placing the screen for about 3 feet (90cm) upfront (hardly an option, screen too close for viewing)
- bringing the beamer closer to the screen (absolutely no option)

Now, what would be the most cost effective and practical way of being able to setup the beamer at a bigger distance to the screen than what it originally is meant for?

The relevant specs of the Acer:
Projections lens : F = 2.5 ~ 2.67, f = 21.86mm ~ 24.00mm
Throw ratio : 58"@2m (1.55 ~ 1.70:1)
Projection screen size : 27" (67cm) ~ 300" (762cm)
Manual zoom : 1:1.1 (hardly anything)
Acer Projection Calculator found here:
http://www.acer-euro.com/pjcalculator/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My current situation:
Screen width : 47.0” (119.5cm)
Screen height : 26.5”(67.5cm)
Screen diagonal : 54.0” (137.0cm)
Viewing distance : 100.0”(255cm)
Desired throw distance : 122.0” (310cm)

Given the current measures, the projector wants to be placed at an 80” (203cm) distance to the screen, while 122.0” (310cm) is desired by me. So, my conclusion is that the throw distance somehow has to be converted from 80” to 122.0” which is about 1.5x. Are there lenses for sale to do this?

Any thought, help and suggestion would be really appreciated!

Regards,

Dennis (The Netherlands)

Hi

I use sometimes added lens in front of my projector - but for bigger picture than normal - i use wide angle lens for cameras (magn. factor 0,8) in this case is picture 1/0,8 bigger In your case you can use too added lens but with magn. factor bigger than 1,0 = teleconverter (exact the real/needed width of picture). Important is proper placing of lens - optical center of this new lens must by placed in center of picture (usualy is pictur in upper half of objectiv of PJ).I had used for my benq homemade built holder or this lens.
