ViewSonic has announced a major shift for the company: it will be moving all of its PC display products to LED by early next year.
The reason behind the move is that LED displays will provide customers with “significant energy cost savings and improved performance and contrast.”
Along with furthering the development of 3D LED displays, ViewSonic does still have plans to work on CCFL displays for specific commercial partners.
Viewsonic going LED. Will develop 3D LED.

That would be a "major shift" if they really moved to true AMLED/AMOLED displays where LEDs serve as active pixels; "LED backlit" displays are not really such a major development since there are quite a few monitors and notebook display panels now which employ LED backlight. That they decided to dump CCFL backlights almost completely is interesting though. Hopefully that new ATI-compatible 120 Hz display will be LED-backlit as well.

-theres so little honest stuff about LCD's you guys should notice it now (~240hz anyone...contrast zeroes ,LED?), somethings not right with this technology.
Too bad we had no better intermittent solution between CRT and (...), s3d would be commonplace now.

It's really dishonest that, when the companies talk about LED displays, they don't specify if it is LED backlit displays or active LED pixels displays. Clearly trying to mislead customers.

Yep, I was waiting for that too, especially SED technology which would have given us the best of both worlds (CRT & LCD), ie. nice constrasts and colors, high frequency and low power consumption. But alas, Canon has given up on this technlogy for the home consumer market several months ago and annouced today the liquidation of his subsidiary.tritosine wrote:Too bad we had no better intermittent solution between CRT and (...), s3d would be commonplace now.

Sounds like more marketing mumbo-jumbo to me.

Ya and to add to the line up of led tvs or monitors they should make an autostereoscopic LED active tv at least 32 inchs. Won't the clarity be there. And they could point the micro mini blubs with a prisim shaps right onto themselves, or just lay a lenticular sheet on top.
Is there lenicular sheet like polarizers we can buy to convert our 60hz monitor into a autostereoscopic display?
