Optoma HD 66 or HD 67 or GT720

Post by Raptor007 »

Well the topic says it all. I found out that the newest NVIDIA driver will now officially support these three projectors so its about time for me to jump on the 3D bandwagon.

I have been looking at the HD66 for a while now and have seen many good reviews.
1280x720 Pixels
Brightness (Lumens) : 2500 ANSI
Contrast (Full On/Off) : 4000:1

The price is about $638 US.

Now the HD67 I am having problems finding one available in the US. I had thought they would be available here but all I can find is England and India. If this is truly an upgrade from the HD66 would it be worth it to track one down?

The GT 720 looks like a good model that should even work with the PS3 (Don't think the HD66 will).

Native Resolution: 1280 x 800
Rated Brightness: 2500 ANSI lumens
Rated Contrast Ratio: 3000:1

But its a bit more expensive at $800 US.

Cool, I hadn't realized the Optoma's finally got certified. Not sure whats better but I would go with the HD66 just on the price alone.

It looks like currently there are some problems with the new Nvidia driver, but at least the Optomas are official now. I like the HD66 as the best of the Optomas as well.

So as an update it looks like the HD67 might just be the model number for the non-US version of the HD66, the specs are very similar.

The HD 66 will definitely not work with PS3 3D without some firmware or hardware from Optoma.

In this price range for officially supported Nvision projectors there is also the ViewSonic PJD6531w and the Acer H5360 Projector as well. Although the Viewsonic has a painfully long throw. Now to find if these two will work with PS3 3D.

I don't think there are any 3d projectors available that support HDMI 1.4 and thus PS3 games or movies.

Ok. That seems to be what I had found. I was confused since the Optoma GT720 says it is for the PS3 and can do 3D. It just doesn't say that in the same sentence... It looks like the Optoma HD66 for me, on sale for $590 US. Finally!

Well my projector and Nvidia 3D vision system are setup and finally working. Of course I did have to use the faked .inf file to turn my projector into an ACER projector.

For everyone with an Optoma HD66 projector this was just posted on the Nivdia Forums.

"nVidia 3D vision support was added on to the projectors manufactured on or after August 2010. Early units do not support NVIDIA 3D Vision. Please contact your local Optoma office for details or visit http://www.optoma.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;"
http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?show ... 74650&st=0

So yeah, not really helpful in any way at all, luckily i got it working anyway or I would have been pissed.

well one thing i noticed in the spec's was that the optima gt series is rated for 5000/3000 hours per bulb for standard and bright.

the hd66 is 4000/3000 same ansi brightness.

the bulbs are 180watt and 185 watt respectively
