Rocketeer 3D comic (1991)
I just picked up a piece of my childhood, the 1991 Rocketeer 3D comic by Neal Adams and Ray Zone. I have fond memories of that comic so I recently picked it up on eBay (which of course had it). I remember being really amazed at the time when first seeing a 3d comic. It wasn't my first experience with 3D though. That would have to go to the Viewmaster. However it was still one of my early experiences with 3D. I was also obsessed with Disney's Rocketeer movie (which the comic was based on) so it was a perfect fit. Ahh, the memories.
To my surprise the comic actually still looked pretty good. The glasses were made for kids though and didn't fit me anymore but I used my Pro-Ana glasses and that worked out fine. I also tested the Ana-Chrome and Pro-View glasses but the Pro-Ana had the brightest image and least ghosting. The 3d effects in the comic were well done. In most scenes there was a nice separation between 3 or 4 different layers. The art was also not bad. Since it was a black and white comic, it lends itself well to anaglyph and doesn't have the issues normally associated with full color anaglyph. Overall it was a fun read. They should make more 3D comics, the kids'll love them.

Nice find!
Lee-filters works great as well. To my surprise the 3d in these images came out pretty good. Amazing for the time being.

awesome
I wonder if they are easier to de-anaglyph then a color movie or picture ?
I mean if you expect a black&white comic as output there shouldnt be any color irregularities in the output (i.e. side by side) image

This is awsome, lets hope that such goodies will come back again maybe with polarisation... (seen a polarizied print somewhere...)
since you don't have to restore color information it should be easier...

Spot on craylon & cirk2.
I removed the red portion, greyscaled and finally adjusted brightness/contrast. Same for the other eye but removed green+blue instead. It's a 2 min job and can be done better.

It's gives a better nostalgic feeling posting original imagescans. It's a great find!
Couldn't deanaglyphing colormovies be just as simple?
