Kerberos, makers of the Sword of the Stars Series

Post by Denaris »

Folks,

I received a very thoughtful, encouraging reply from Chris Stewart of Kerberos. They make the game Sword of the Stars, and if you have even a vague interest in galactic conquest games you should give this a look. The game features real physics, deep strategy, and kick-butt graphics!

Here is his reply to my email:

Hi [my name goes here],

As far as I know, we're not MTBS certified - or at least, we have not
contacted them to have SotS certified. However, we did have one guy last
year, say he was playing it in 3D, but I can't confirm that as true. We are
curious now, so we're looking into it. Perhaps we can arrange for
certification and any changes that would require, in a later update for the
game.

As for Vancouver/Victoria, I recommend both in the summer time - right now
it's starting to get rainy again, which isn't always impressive to visitors.
But when the sun is out, both have lots to see - July/August in particular,
Vancouver has a lot of cool things going on, like the international
fireworks competition, lantern festival, folk festival, etc.

And if you're anywhere it snows heavy in the winter, then even Vancouver in
the wintertime is nice, as it's rare to see any snow, and when we do, it's
for usually overnight.

Cheers

c

Subject: Question about Sword of Stars and Born of Blood

Dear Kerberos People,

I bought Sword of the Stars a while back and I absolutely loved it. I've
been thinking about picking up Born of Blood. I am also considering buying
some 3d video hardware like an head mounted display or a 3D monitor, and I
was wondering if the Sword of the Stars games were MTBS certified. The
games are of course already in 3D, but this certification is about making
sure the game looks good with stereoscopic hardware.

Oh, by the way, I coudn't help but notice that your offices are in
Vancouver, and I have been thinking about vacation destinations. I heard
Vancouver and the nearby Victoria Gardens were both beautiful places. Any
advice for a prospective tourist?

Thanks for your time, and keep up the great work!

Hey. Denaris! You really have some things going here!. Checking some stuffs up myself but so far only get "standard" replies... No fish on the hook. But some game company gotta be first bragging with being certified for 3d-gaming!

cheers

Jamie Hyneman: "It's really cool, but really unusual."

This is fantastic. It's not a hook! It's an opportunity - an invitation - to grow something without any catches or hidden costs.

I am very impressed with how this was handled. Your sincerity came through, and we will be true to our word if or when they come forward.

If developers come back with standard replies, I think it's a good idea to post them here too. It's important to have a public record of it so other members can inquire too.

Regards,
Neil

I tested the demo in S-3D. Basiclally it works, but there are some anomalies e.g. The Tech-Tree is basically 3D, but not handeled correct. Some parts get shifted to the left, others to the right. That is not comfortable.

The staar Systhems look nice. You could notice, that some stars are much further away (in Z-direction). In 2D you might think they are closer, because of the viewing angle...

I don't know about the combats anymore, but if you can do there much, I didn't find it.

I'd like to see a S-3D optimized edition
