Mirror's Edge - nearly perfect

Post by artox »

The game looks great in stereo 3d, using the 1.10 beta release driver.
The only thing that doesn't come out right are the shadows, thankfully the game uses unreal3 engine, which means that even if there is no option in the menu to switch them off, you can go to
C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\EA Games\Mirror's Edge\TdGame\Config\tdEngine.ini (for Vista)
and edit the DynamicShadows=True to False.
Other than that it is vital to install 1.01 patch, or you'll get numerous psysx related crashes and slowdowns, which hamper the experience.

Nice to know.

Did you feel sick playing the game? This game without stereo can give you motion sickness, so with stereo enabled it might be too much.

is it possible for iZ3D to fix the shadows or is that something out of their control?

May be possible, but shadows can cause trouble.

If you fill out a support ticket here: http://iz3d.com/support" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It can help to expedite the process.

Well, it's great in stereo, even beneficial to gameplay, although I'm playing in anaglyph mode and had to disable runner view, meaning I get to find all the paths on my own, because of the screwed up colors in optimized mode (red is yellow and yellow is yellow, so colors pretty much don't really show you what you need to grab). No motion sickness here, but I've been playing games in stereo for 8 years now ;)

I haven't tried out Mirror's Edge in S-3D yet. I'm currently transitioning into a new apartment so I'm basically running on a friend's computer until February 1st. Plus I gave my red/blue glasses away to a friend because I figured it's about time to get an iZ3D monitor (in March).

Perfect on the iz3d drivers 1.10? Dude whatever you are smoking I WANT IT. ME in S3D on the IZ3D drivers is crippled 10 fold by performance issues, ABYSMAL ghosting, still no pop out (sounds like every game) but the depth is nice :D

What are your system specs? And did you run a clean uninstall of previous iZ3D driver releases? I found that I hadn't uninstalled v1.09 before installing v1.10 beta and I ended up having the STRANGEST results in some of my games (e.g. UT3, SWAT 4, GTA San Andreas).... Inexplicable / unfixable ghosting and so forth.

Turned out I hadn't uninstalled v1.09 correctly. Fixing that fixed the whole ghosting issue.

Post some screen shots too. Just hit PRNTSCRN, rename the files to .JPG, and attach them to your posts here. I'd like to see what you are up against.

Regards,
Neil
