How to improve the 3d experienve with my setup

Post by drpsycho »

Hi, I'm new to 3d gaming and I would like to play arkham asylum in the best way possible with my setup.
Searching google I found some information and tools and have managed to play it in 3d but I think there are ways to improve the experience.

This is my setup:

Gtx970 with the latest drivers
Sony bravia kdl-55w805a (passive 3d/1080p 60hz)
Windows 10 22h2

What I did:

With 3DFixManager I installed the stereoscopic 3d driver and in display settings I set "3d display type" to "3d tv play"
Set game resolution to 720p 60hz
This worked like expected, but it seems that it's not the best experience.

My question:

If I understood corretly, with edid override I could play in 1080p 60hz, right?
I tried these two edids: https://3dvision-blog.com/tag/edid-override/
My tv got reconized as zalman or acer, in nvcp it shows as optimized, but the game don't get in 3d, don't even in 720p 60hz.
I tried messing with 3dfixmanager settings with no luck.

So what am I doing wrong? What is the best way to play arkham asylum in 3d with this setup?

Thanks for the help.

Does the 3d test in nvcp work? You probably need to do this viewtopic.php?t=26333 to make it work with newer drivers. An easier way is to start with 452.06 instead https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/results/162980/

There's a lot of useful info about passive 3D TVs in these threads:

I have managed to get it in 3d, the problem now is that the image has a lot of ghosting when using edid override, with 3dtvplay i get no ghosting at all. I'm using driver 418 now, without 3d fix manager.

There are a few things that can cause ghosting in your case.
1) If your TV is 1080p, make sure the edid override you're using is also from a 1080p TV. Most of them are for 4K TVs. You can also try to make your own edid override using your original edit as the starting point. In some cases all you need to change is the device id. In other cases you need to change more than that. There was a thread about the specifics. Try searching for it here or on the Nvidia forum.
2) Make sure that "output color format" in nvidia control panel -> change resolution is either RGB or YCbCr444. Also try to change between these two. You'll get ghosting for sure with YCbCr422.
3) You might need to disable any post-processing settings that your TV has in its menu. Selecting something like game mode (can be called differently) might help with disabling it as well.
4) Make sure that the game resolution is 1920x1080. It must match exactly your TV's native resolution, unlike with 3dtvplay that allows 720p.
