Demo works, I think to remove that error you need to enable driver hack in 3dfm.

It worked for me with driver 452.06, if you don't have that one you can use Losti's tool to install it cleanly.

Yeah, I just got the same error with Vampyr when I ran it outseide of 3DFM (like via the desktop shortcut) - it seems to disappear when executed from 3DFM - so either do that or enable the driver hack in 3DFM (just turn on the 3D toggle in the latest version) and run via desktop shortcut.

May be the point is that some do not understand what 3DFM is dooing here. The HACK will be installed the moment you start the game via pressing "Play in 3D" in 3DFM. BEFORE this, the driver hack is disbled. So install a 3D-Fix with 3DFM and than start the game via another source, will result in NO-HACK so the game will crash. Even if you close 3DFM and press YES for restore original driver, your driver hack is disabled. MEANS, you are forced to start games via 3DFM OR use the 3D-Vision Driver Changer to enable driver hack to start games without 3DFM OR let it enabled even if 3DFM asks you.

In my eyes the driver hack handling in 3DFM is the thing that causes so many questions and posts about crashes. THATs what i have expected since i have seen this automatic on of handling for the hack. It was made due to the EAC/online gaming things the driver hack can have negative effect. But in my eyes it would have been better to inform the user about risks if grlobal hack is enabled and than let the user decide the ON/OFF toggle and permanentely show the ON/OFF state. You can check this by choosing "Settings" in 3DFM, than "Nvidia 3D Settings" and than thare is a checkbox "Show global driver hack toggle"

Image

As you can see, its disabled. Ifyou start a game you will be asked to enable it. This is the next step to fail. If you are too lazy to read or whatever or may just click no but you wanted to click YES, the game will crash.

In my opinion its the best to simply enable the global driver hack the time 3DFM starts. Tell the user that he has to disable it if he have to expect issues with online games / EAC and than let him go. This would prevent many crash reports here. If some one complains about an accout ban in an online game, he was warned. This should not be our problem :-)

So for all the user s having problems with crashes:

BEFORE running a game NOT by clicking PLAY 3D in 3DFM:

1. Check your global driver hack state with 3DFM or with the 3D-Vision Driver Changer

OR: Simply use 3DFM to start by pessing PLAY 3D here after the fix installation, and READ the messages here popping up carefully.

Hey thanks Losti for this detailed instructions. I was seeing the warning sometimes when starting games with the warning to avoid enabling the hack when playing online games to not get banned but I didn't knew how to toggle it myself.

That also explains why since a few days my sons wanted to play Overwatch and the game was crashing while it was working before. I had to told them to turn off 3D before starting the game. I thought it was possibly caused after updating to 452.06 a few weeks ago but now I know it's because of that hack setting.

I tend to agree with you, that setting should always be visible and the popup bubble information should explain more (with text from the check box to enable/disable it).

Also maybe adding a line in this panel under Video Driver stating the Video Driver is unaltered or altered would help.

Are those settings good?

Why you do not simply copy the fix from the blog to the game and start it as usual wihout 3dfm? You can leave 3DFM running if you have (like in the screenshot) enabled the driver hack. But you dont need it to start the game in 3D if the hack is enabled.

http://helixmod.blogspot.com/2020/12/li ... ready.html

Read the "Starting the Game and Ingame-Setup" section, here you have hints how to kick in 3D.

It sometimes help to set the resolution in game to something else than your native and than switch back.

There was only one UE4 game that i was never able to run in 3D but i found a way how 3D kicks in:

Locate the config folder for the game, if this game is at the blog like little nightmares, you can find the info in the blog poste where you have to search for the config folder. Here you have, if game runs once, a GameUserSettings.ini. IF NOT, create it.

Than open it, and add:

[/Script/Engine.GameUserSettings]
WindowPosX=-1
WindowPosY=-1
bUseDesktopResolutionForFullscreen=True
FullscreenMode=0
LastConfirmedFullscreenMode=0
Version=5

If the file allready exist, please change the existing settings in the section [/Script/Engine.GameUserSettings] like above, OR add it if they will not exist.

Yes, this is what I did. Seemed easier than messing with 3dfm setup.

There is already a profile in 3DFM for little nightmares II. Just set the filter to "All Games", select the game and click on the "Edit" button. Then scroll down to the field "Install folder name", type in "Little Nightmares II Demo" and hit "Save". Ready... Why overcomplicating things? I haven't filled in an install folder name yet because no data is available on www.steamdb.info yet (official game isn't released yet)

btw: concerning the profile you created there: if you don't provide a "relative install path" to "Helios\Binaries\Win64" the fix will be installed to the wrong directory.

Edit: Seems like SteamApp ID has to be changed as well because the demo uses another one (1443440). So best is to copy the Little Nightmares II fix profile folder and adjust this one to match the demo.

The global toggle isn't visible by default because it would overcomplicate things for the regular user. Even with more explanation for the toggle he would probably not understand and just turn and leave it on. Then he'll forget that he enabled that feature. Later he will complain that his Overwatch account was banned because of using a modded driver DLL which was installed by 3DFM. Another reason is that Helixvision is the lead plattform where the global driver hack must not be accessable at all because it would be against Steam agreements (application is not allowed to make deep changes to the system)

Therefore the toggle is invisible by default. There are 1218 profiles in 3DFM - I think for 95% of the users this will be enough games to play and they don't need the global driver hack. For the 5% of power users it should be doable to do a bit of exploration in 3DFM for finding the global hack.

After thinking about it, this is the conclusion I came to. I think it's best to leave it as-is to protected the common user and let the advanced user tinker/research a bit for unusual scenarios. It's just safer. The option is there. I fell victim to having it disabled as well when running things outside of 3DFM but thanks to this forum I got proper guidance and now understand what's going on.

PSA: Green Man Gaming has a temporary preorder deal for both standard and deluxe editions of this game, 22% off if you use the following voucher code:

PREPARE2PLAY

I only mention because preorder/day one deals have really dried up on pc (used to be commonplace), and this title would be difficult for me to wait for a sale. Loved the first one, and its the first new game I'll be buying in a while that actually has true 3D... :D

Anybody know if the fix still works with the new EE? I mean most likely it does since it uses universal fix but would be nice to get a confirmation :)

EDIT: I just watched the video, I see there's ray-tracing. So they added a DX12 option? Maybe the other new effects are also DX12, in which case the DX11 shaders remain intact.
