Best Passive 3D Monitor for Nvidia 3D Gaming?

Post by strider »

Hi,

Just getting in to 3D gaming (yeah i know i'm 10 years late)! I tested 3DTV Play on my passive 4K LG OLED55E6V (2016) and was very impressed with the 3D. Am looking to get a 24 or 27" desk monitor that is 3D vision compatible. The best active one seems to be the ASUS PG278QR (2017), which i am considering with an Nvidia Vision Kit 2. But then i find having to recharge batteries a bit annoying and am concerned they will eventually die completely so am also considering a passive monitor.

So the question is, what is the best passive 3D monitor that will work with Nvidia's GeForce 3D setup and HelixMod, and will it work with the latest 2000 series GPUs and the old NVidia driver? I am aware of the ACER HR274H (2012) but that is old (1080 only).

Has anyone compared active vs passive on desktop monitors? Does one look better than the other? I know that questions about active vs passive has been asked many times before, but the debate usually talks about TVs. I am familiar with the technicalities of active vs passive and am mainly interested to see if anyone has any realworld experience of comparing active vs passive "monitors" with NVidia 3D solutions.

Thanks

LG’s E6/C6 is the best passive display for 3D gaming, with its bright OLED interleaved 4K display and HDR capability (for a small number of games). When properly adjusted, display lag is less than 34 ms. Several forum members like me are still using this great 3D display. Note that an EDID display override (via Device Manager) eliminates need for 3DTV Play and its terrible 24 Hz limitation. See https://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic ... 72#p166672 for more discussion about setup. Also note that some of the more recent Helixmod (and Vk3DVision) 3D game fixes include an option for directly using 3D TV modes for display (Top/bottom best), without needing EDID.
Dual boot VR/3D Vision disk partitioning (multiple SSDs). 3D Vision - Windows 10 v1809, 425.31 driver, 32 GB, i9-9900X@4.5 GHz, hybrid-cooled 2080Ti, 4K LG E6 OLED TV with EDID. VR/geo-11 - 3080Ti with Vive Pro 2, also have Aero, wireless lens-modified Vive Pro, Index, Reverb G2, Pimax 8K.

Yeah, thanks i'd read about the EDID override and may look into this one day. The LG is too big for my desk though (60cm deep!).. so really curious about passive desk monitors.

Are they still manufacturing 3D monitors / TV's?

Currently "m using a 4K monitor (non 3D) and I have a Samsung DLP 3D TV from 2009. Thinking about swapping out my monitor for a 3D one.

Thanks for the passive list. That was useful to have in one place. Decided to go with the ASUS PG278QR in the end. Might pick up an extra battery for the glasses to secure logevity. Can always keep my eye out for a cheap passive on ebay if i want to compare later on (one recently sold for £20!).

Am not holding my breath for new 3D monitors..

I appreciate the passive list. Having that all in one location was helpful. ultimately made the decision to purchase the ASUS PG278QR. Might buy an additional battery for the glasses in order to ensure longevity.
