Most new games immediately CTD on Windows 10 with 3D enabled

Post by sgsrules »

I have my pc setup to dual boot in windows 7 and windows 10.
I primarily run games on windows 7, using the 452 nvidia driver and i haven't had any unusual issues. More and more games are adding win 10 requirements so I've been forced to start using my windows 10 partition to play games on.

Unfortunately I can't get very many of the newer games to consistently run in 3D on windows 10. Most of of the newer UE4 games like FF7 remake, The Ascent, Psychonauts 2, Chorus immediately CTD on Windows 10 with a fatal error message. I think this mainly affects UE4 games and Oddly enough some newer UE4 games like Solar ash work on windows 10.

If I disable 3D I can play any of the games. If I enable 3D (With or without the driver hack) then it immediately crashes to desktop. The games will crash regardless of a 3D fix being installed or not.

I'm running Windows 10 v 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1348)
Nvidia driver 452.22 standard
Nvidia 3d vision kit on a Projector.

I've installed the drivers using both the 3dFix Manager and Losti's 3D-Vision Driver Changer tool. Before installing I ran DDU to completely clean old drivers. The only unusual thing about my setup is that I installed an edid driver override for my Optoma projector to make it 3dVision Ready but is doubt this is the culprit.

Have you tried renaming Epic Overlay folder -see https://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic ... 65#p181865, for example? I believe bo3b identified this unusual issue with UE4 game fixes some time ago. Losti’s latest versions of his superb universal fix for UE4 games address this issue.
Dual boot VR/3D Vision disk partitioning (multiple SSDs). 3D Vision - Windows 10 v1809, 425.31 driver, 32 GB, i9-9900X@4.5 GHz, hybrid-cooled 2080Ti, 4K LG E6 OLED TV with EDID. VR/geo-11 - 3080Ti with Vive Pro 2, also have Aero, wireless lens-modified Vive Pro, Index, Reverb G2, Pimax 8K.

I tried doing this as well with the few games i use on Epic and it didn't help. I also ran the fixes using Losti’s Epic launcher and it still CTD.

Note that the Overlay folder must be renamed for Steam UE4 games as well, not just Epic Games content. Sorry that did not help.

For UE4 games the UE4-UV2 has a epic config tool to Start that should do this automatically and also rename back. Sometimes games needs to be startet 2-5 times unindepenend if epic or not to Launch or some Crash prevention Options from the config tool.

Thanks that actually helped. I'm not sure what the issue was but i ended up resolving it. I had done everything including enabling the 3d vision driver hack in the 3dfix manager and still had the issue what ended up fixing it was running the z_ConfigToolMain.cmd tool. I had been installing the ue4 fixes using the 00_UE4-UniversalFix-2_Config.cmd file and not z_ConfigToolMain.cmd. I'm not sure what the difference is all I know is that on windows 7 00_UE4-UniversalFix-2_Config.cmd would work fine, but on windows 10 it seems i have to use z_ConfigToolMain.cmd instead .

Losti, Could you explain the difference between the two?
