Star Trek D-A-C, The COMPLETE Story!

Post by PressBot »

Paramount Digital Entertainment, Bad Robot Interactive, CBS and Naked Sky Entertainment announced that the newly-updated Star Trek: D-A-C video game is now available for download on Windows PC via Valve’s Steam digital distribution platform. Star Trek D-A-C also boasts NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision compatibility!

What has not been mentioned in the press release, something which we have been given permission to share, is that The S-3D Gaming Alliance also arranged for this title to be optimized on DDD and iZ3D driver solutions several weeks before it was made available to the public!

We are not going to review this game because we think it would be a conflict of interest to do so. However, here are the facts:

While it was never stated, our opinion is that the original NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision experience has artistic intentions, and therefore does not allow end users to control the convergence or pop-out experience without the creation of anomalies. Instead, greater priority was given to the 3D effects by giving the HUD predetermined Z-axis coordinates.

S3DGA was not given an artistic framework, so we advised iZ3D and DDD to create game profiles that left the 3D experience decisions to the end user. In particular, we requested the flexibility to have a combined depth and pop-out experience without hampering the HUD.

The DDD example is at an extreme setting to demonstrate flexibility, and reflects a combined depth and pop-out experience. You can adjust according to what is most comfortable for you.

We have not been able to test the iZ3D implementation firsthand because their drivers do not yet support Windows 7 64 bit with this game. However, the screenshots they shared indicates the flexibility to have a pop-out only experience which in itself is challenging. iZ3D and its users are encouraged to share additional screenshots in our forums to demonstrate other variations. Additional screen captures can be found in our Star Trek D-A-C Gallery!

As always, S-3D Gaming Alliance membership is encouraged, and interested parties can learn more at S3DGA.COM.

Share your thoughts and findings in our discussion forums, and expect big news on Monday!
