Ash VR1 Mk III low cost diy PC HMD build cost $130
Hi Guys,
I Built a new Oculus style PC Virtual Reality headset last night using one of those $25 'VR Box' headsets designed for mobile phones and the 8" Innolux lcd panel out of my old 'Welding Mask' based headset. Head tracking is still wireless Air Mouse based to allow compatibility with all existing PC RPG and FPS games. Much more compact than the original VR headset i built a couple of years ago. With two layers of 3x fresnel the screen edges are not visible and all you see is nice clear image of the game screen.
Total cost would be about $130 dollars. Parts purchased all off ebay.
1. VR Box headset $25
2. Innolux 8 inch EJ080NA-04B LCD display screen and controller board $70
3. Wireless 2.5g air mouse $11
4. 5 meter DVI to VGA cable (for connectiing lcd panel to PC video card) $10
5. 5 meter DC power extension cable $5 (for power to lcd panel)
6. 1 A5 Magnifying Sheet Fresnel Lens $3 (use 2 sheets 1" apart for borderless fov)
7. Silicon sealant for sticking screen to plastic boarding, (use thick black card if you wish) and 4 small screws for securing to VR Box unit. $5
Air mouse is attached to vga cable on top of screen surround with large pull ties for easy removal when batteries need changing.
Regards, hope my project helps somebody.

Isn't your refereed panel 800X600@8" ?airons1972 wrote:2. Innolux 8" EJ080NA-05A lcd panel and controller board $70
Imo after magnification its too less ppi for VR level immersion.
I think this could be more better in quality and immersion wise being 1280X800@7" at $73 (just paying $3 more )

The INNOLUX EJ080NA-04B LCD display screen panel panel definitely does 1024x768 upto 85hz. I run all my pc games in that res and it works no problems. As for the magnification, if you have two sheets of 3x magnification fresnel aprox 1" apart the image is sharp and fills the viewable area with no screen border visible. It takes a little experimentation to get the distances correct, but it isnt too hard.

in search with your refereed name, ones i found were all 800X600 native with support upto fhd but none were 1024X768 native.
I found native resolution do matter in hmd.

I still think 1280X800 @ 7" is more pixel packed and nice alternate.. it can be more nicely packed in to Ready Made HMD
i even suggest to use these as case
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Baofeng- ... eb201560_9
Advantage is you can have two different set of optics for two different purpose.. more nicely build and more bang for buck at $15 more...

True, when i ordered the phone hmd case i used it was just a test really to see if it could be used. Admittedly my screen is a little large, but since i already had it i used it for this build.
