Skyrim - ZBuffer

Post by Lilwolf »

My system wasn't hitting a great frame rate with Skyrim and Geometry. I tried the setting it to ZBuffer, but everything seems very flat. Anyone get any settings that seem to work? Or do I need to turn other settings down and go with Geometry?

I havent really tested frame rates but geometry basically cuts frame rate in half over 2D as long as you don't have a CPU/GPU bottleneck [then you got a big problem]

That's the tradeoff you have to make: speed vs. most natural 3D.

Z-Buffer looks flatter (for forground objects), Geometry is slower (about 1/2)

You can try to shift the 3D more to foreground in Z3D with the "Depth Weightening" option, but it will always be flatter than G3D. Raising the "Eye Seperation" also helps, but creates more obvious visual glitches (another tradeoff you have to make...)

This was my primary fear with Z buffer mode as even on monitor Z buffer looks flat as it force me to keep depth 6-7% else weird border anomaly happens. that make me skip on Z buffer. geometry will give good results but you need meaty configuration system to handle that on DevKit. God knows what happen when consumer version will be out it will at least be FHD so expect more load on system.

VORPX

Z-Buffer
++ Parallay Mapping works fine :woot
++ Water + Sky is working
-- weapons are @ wrong depth
-- problems with textures containing transparency
-- foreground very flat
-- running makes me sick ...
Geometry
-- Sky, Water
-- weapons are @ wrong depth
----- no Parallax Mapping
++ foreground
+ running ok

Tridef
++ foreground
++ Sky
+ Weapons ok
+ running ok
-- Water
----- no parallax mapping

So tridef currently won for me my personal skyrim test ...

Skyrim worked awesome with Nvidia 3D Vision. Seems like Vorpx needs to recruit Helix:

His mods were a godsend for 3D Vision users.
