The Digital Out-of-Home Dimension

Post by kevinw729 »

I wanted to just field a question / comment about the other side of the coin (or token) regarding the application of VR and 3D.

We work in the Digital Out-of-Home entertainment (DOE) industry; amusement, attraction and retail-tainment are just some of the applications of this sector, but we also include exergaming and hospitality industry approaches. Where many see arcade as dead, we work in a vibrant and diverse industry that we felt needed more recognition, especially as we see a migration towards out-of-home gaming as social entertainment (location-based) gains ground with a diverse audience.

We have seen this sector originate the first attempts into Virtual Reality with systems such as the Virtuality platform and GlobalVR - the DOE sector is the only place where an audience can still find a successful and fully operation VR attraction (DisneyQuest, Orlando, FL). And the amusement and attraction sector has already seen the first attraction deployment of the Oculus Rift (see previous post on Oculus forum).

I would be interested to hear some of your views about this application outside of consumer, and any comments on where you think this could go?

P.S. You may be interested to learn there is a new book on this sector of the industry being published later this year - called "The Out of Home Interactive Entertainment Frontier" :
