Re: War Thunder (dogfighting oldschool plane game) Rifted

Post by GenTsoChkn »

I believe I am having an issue with the IZ3D driver. The image isn't duplicating and just ending up with the game being split. Any ideas?

I was originally getting a error every time I attempted to enable the driver. After uninstalling the IZ3D drivers I tried to re-install but was greeted with a Windows 8 flavor of BSOD. I eventually figured out that if I re-install the nVidia 320.18 drivers that I would be able to install IZ3D again. Now that I can finally enable and disable the driver, I'm not thinking it is actually do it, or at least not injecting. I used the profile that someone had made for it and making sure that it points to the correct .exe. Attached the image I am seeing. I also posted on the War Thunder forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@GenTsoChkn:
change in the warthunder option (starting window, where you disable shadows and blur) - the renderer to WinXP

Uninstall IZ3D, run a driver cleaner, reinstall. Sounds as though you have something weird happening.

I got it going using this process. It was decent enough in terms of cockpit views, and visibility of the instruments was good etc, but the 3d seemed a bit wrong still. Im hoping the official version will be better.

I'm hoping official support is better too. Make sure you play around with first the separation in IZ3D, then set the convergance. You can really crank the 3D up to wrap that cockpit all around you, then use the gunsight or target marker text as an infinity point to set the convergence. The effect is very pronounced, and only has problems when you get right up on an enemy aircrafts tail.

I may download the Dev version tonight, as they have an "Oculus Rift" check box I the setup now :)

Oooohh, let us know how you get on :)

I wouldn't want to take anything away from you genuises that got this working ;) I have no hesitation in admitting I'm a real plug 'n' play type of person so will always opt for the easiest option.

I have it downloaded and ready to go, but the Dev server is offline. Dying to know if they enabled it and to what extent!

I hear you on the complexity lol. After we wrote that guide I was looking back through it thinking you'll have to be a motivated flyer to take it on. Luckily it is a bit simpler now then it was before.

I can't wait for the day when all we do is check an "Oculus Rift" box in any game and go about our business. That day may come with the next patch, as I've checked the box for the Rift in the War Thunder launcher, just can't get logged in! :)

Will report back if they bring it back online.

Awesome..thanks for the heads up. I've ticked the Oculus Rift box but how do you get it in rift mode. Do you need to run in duplicate or extended mode and change the resolution on desktop?

I'm very excited :)

I think you have to duplicate your display, I haven´t gotten around to trying it my self.

Is there any release notes from Gaijin about this new patch? my guess that its just a tick box and nothing more at the moment.

It's official and it's working :)
I've just downloaded latest patch 1.31 and if you tick the Oculus Rift box in preluanch options, once you get in your plane it's in rift mode. I'm new to War Thunder but I was amazed..it feels so natural :)

I cant see any options relating to Oculus so don't think you can do anything from the game. It feels great to me, really didn't take long to get used to it. I'm sure there's lots missing, no radar etc, but I'm sure it'll improve over time.
The centre seems to move sometimes and I couldn't see a way to re-centre, but for a first implementation it's a great start :)

Oh it definitely works mate and it's great :)
I need to spend more time understanding the game and various modes etc but it's already among my fav Oculus experiences. I think it may spur me on for a new project involving a flight seat :D

Yeah..it can be.
I'll be honest, it's very new to me so I don't know how the targeting works. Sometimes I see no difference between other aircraft as there's nothing to tell me who is naughty and who is nice ;) However, when I respawn sometimes there's the blue and red labels above everything. I need to do more research and understand how the game actually works..but flying around is sooo much fun

when I tried it, the view was facing left when my rift was facing forward. Is there any way to reset this so I can look forward and press a button for instance?

Dont know that there is a Reset-Key. You must hold the Rift straight forward when starting the game

I feel stupid but I can't get it to work. I have checked Oculus Rift on the game launcher. In game I have tried cockpit and virtual cockpit modes. I get the two views with the barrel distortion but the Oculus Rift tracker does nothing, I can only move the pilot's head with the mouse. I can see the 3D effect of the cockpit, but it feels very big, or zoomed.

On the War Thunder forums there are instructions to remove OpenTrack folder if headtracking is not working, but I don't have any OpenTrack folders inside War Thunder.

I think you need to delete the open track folder completely as the game detects if you have it on your system, not just in the War Thunder folder

Nothing :?

..at least nothing that anyone seems to have noticed. There's no extra options that I've found and the FOV etc is the same (the one thing I hoped they may have changed).
I'll be bugging them on the official forums..but for now I see no difference :(

Maybe they fixed the anti-aliasing bug?

Last time I played this on the rift I got a black screen whenever I tried to use anti-aliasing.. maybe you can try to see if you can now play this with high anti aliasing on the rift?

My experience hasn't been that positive with the official Rift support. 3D seems to have little presence. Also, its very hard to see other planes in the more difficult modes (no 'markers') due to the low resolution.

The 3D feels off, is there a way to adjust it? Other flying games like Heli Hell etc have much more 3D cockpits.

Is it just my O.R setup or is the Aircraft cockpit really wide in this game ?

It feels as though the cockpit is approx. 1- 1.5 m wide

Is there a way to target enemy planes as I can hardly make out where any aircraft are due to the Rift's low rez.. I hope this 3M filter will help alleviate some of the screen door effect as playing flight sims are mostly based around light colored backgrounds such as sky and clouds... the screen looks terrible :(

I get the same issues, the cockpit just doesn't feel right.
Also targeting enemy planes is really only possible if you play on servers with 'tags' on the planes, so you can see them more easily. Otherwise its basically like chasing fuzzy dots.

I think this sim is really showing the problems with the low resolution of the Rift DK1.
