Consumer/HD Oculus Rift "Months" away?

Post by yuriythebest »

this is probably a "HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED!" type of post, but, source article:
http://www.economist.com/blogs/schumpet ... culus-rift

The cash injection will certainly help avoid such a fate. Brendan Iribe, Oculus's chief executive, says that his firm is focused on producing a Rift “as close to a consumer product as possible.” A high-definition version for personal-computers, a prototype of which was shown at E3, a video game exhibition, will reach gamers in months, he says.
so we have Brendan Iribe, Oculus's chief executive, being quoted in "the economist", saying that the HD version of the rift will be out in "months" for gamers. I don't know if this has been discussed before in another post but this seems quite major if this is true
Oculus Rift / 3d Sucks - 2D FTW!!!

I really hope we get it soon. I have the first Dev kit, and I'll have the second one along with the consumer version and probably every subsequent version after that :D

hmmm.... i would wish so. Not to forget that holiday season could accelerate Oculus' sales dramatically.
Months away? Could mean 2-11 months, my guess.

That would be cool but the problem right now is there's not enough software to support a release of such device.
Consumers aren't prepared to deal with configurations, setting things up, input methods that are clumsy and unforgiving.
There's still much work to be done before consumer version. If Oculus could release a wireless haptic glove, and HD wireless Rift at the same time, (With a ton of good software support) then we'd be talking.

Mmmm... its nice to dream isn't it. :D

I just hope Dev Kit one can easily be upgraded... but from the looks of the rounded face plate in the 1080p model I'm guessing not :|

I consulted my Golden Orb last night... & the Golden Orb says ... no consumer Rift till May 2014 (which is months away )

Direct Neural Interfaces are just "months away" too, although lots more of them than we can count on our fingers and our toes...
:o

Without specifying a specific range of months, it is essentially as meaningless for making real plans as that sales projection chart.

Much like saying "some day RSN"...

Be careful gazing into that golden orb.

Perhaps the dev kit 2 is coming later this year? I agree that the consumer version is still more than a year away (as it should be, to give devs time).

If so, I'm going to try to force myself to wait for the consumer version, even though the screen is the biggest flaw in the current Rift.

edit: Oh, "for gamers." Well, whatever; as others have said, more than 12 is still a number of months, haha.

sure if we read word GAMERS.

Why for Gamers

1) GAMERS have little above comman knowhow of setting and tweking their
gadgates for optimum output
2) GAMERS don Easily give up on hardware they try to search work around in
their investment if they see potantial and possiblity(we have people working
on FrankenRIFt yet not cursing original DEVKIT)
3) Though gamers are adrenaline thirsty they have pations like SNIPER for
their target.

Why i think E3 prototype is viable candidate for Beta Consumer Rift (Semi Consumer Version LOL ;) )

1) It has some what addressed MAJOR LIMITATIOn the SCREEN DOOR EFFECT
and i think there are only 2 major observation by every one who tried RIFT
A) Screen Door B) Blur.Where many pointed out Source of BLUR is partly
in SDK Codes and partly becouse of limitation of Display
i have feeling may be they found a solution for it atleast to make it bare
minimum may be new display might do things better too.

2) Head Traker is Absoultly FLawless and only thing needed was Postional
Tracking for which Sixense has come up with wireless Candidate
(I doubt may be Sixense has wires some where linking to Oculs BTW.)

3) Every one who has used rift have praised it first.hype built around it may
fad in time if they don utilized momentum.

They can very well make clear that its "BITA" still i think it will set records of salse as you can say its just Evolution.

only thing they should keep in mind is KEEP IT UPGRADEBLE so people don regret their purchase if SUPER HD 2560X1440 Screen rift is going to come out in just next 6 Month of BITA as DISPLAY IS MAJOR CONCIRN 1 for VR you can offer screen upgrade at less price all will be happy unless its again going 5" to 7" which in case not possible for screen change

I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED KICK STARTER LOOK OF RIFT iT was SLEEK And FUTURISTIC its nice to see RIFT getting 7 to 5
