3D Stereoscopic Surgery

Post by pixel67 »

Now this is cool. There are a lot of companies out there that have dabbled with S3D displays in the medical industry (Vital Images, Barco, 3Mensio, Dome, etc) but this is live stereo imaging used in a surgical case. Just goes to show you that the potential for S3D is growing significantly!

I feel bad for the kids if those doctors are using Nvidia's stereo driver. Lets just hope that the HUD is not mission critical:

The real-time stereoscopic visualization system was designed to handle and render 30MB of data every second. The renderer was implemented on a GeForce FX 7800 (nVidia Corp., Santa Clara, Calif.).

yup :) no other reason for them to choose a high end video card from the geeforce 7 series. lol lol lol

I'd say, it will not be that bad, if the HUD is placed right! Company of Heroes or Medievel Total War 2 had good HUD. I was able to get Spears or Guns pop out of the HUD - with NV driver! I think the HUD was always at the same place. I think it was at a special place (maybe Depth 0?) where NV driver does not push it to the sides...

You see, it can actually be used ok, if the other programs ore OK.

Anyway, it would be sad if a professional application doesn't use its own native stereo in the graphical engine.
