I've been shooting in 3d with two dslr's sync'd together and have gotten some great footage, but ive run into an issue where i want to shoot stereo closeup and the 4ft rule is forcing me to abandon it and go 2d in order to get one of the shots. I dont really have the resources to roto the footage and create depthmaps, so i was wondering if there are any 2d-3d hardware/software converters that will at least give me a little bit of correct stereo so i can fake the shot. So far ive dug through some programs that claim to do this but havent found anything that does much, here's my notes for the record, i fed them each the left eye of a stereo pair i had to see how it would do:

Axara 2d to 3d converter - Planar stereo (only moved the image plane)
=======
Aiseesoft 3d converter- planar stereo
=======
Aimersoft video converter ultimate- Planar stereo
=======
Arcsoft mediaconverter -Really screwed up stereo
========
Cyberlink powerdvd - wont render video in 3d mode
========
Tridef 3d - doesnt attempt to make a stereo pair
========
Dvdfab platinum - mostly planar with slight stereo

To be honest, everything I've seen is junk. Hell, even Hollywood movies with dozens of artists and millions of dollars can barely do a decent job on 3D conversion.
