A 4k display maybe next year, this is great! I don't know if we need 4k for a phone, but we need it for VR ;)

Clearly 4k is not needed for a phone! But good for VR, now we need a major shift in GPU's. The gtx 980's are good, but we will need much more than that. Mobile GPU's need to also start catching up with desktop performance.

4K rift @2015-16 can end in END COST Paradox.
1440p CV1 with diffusers and different kind of optics with specialized manufacturing seem
More plausible.

dont think the problem is getting 4k ,its getting the extra computing power to run these screens..
at a decent frame rate too.

my 2grand msi gt60 with 780m laptop struggles sometimes with dk2 all beit elite dangerous.

On a side note – I had a meeting with those involved with display panels at Samsung and it was revealed their OVR relationship was incorrectly reported as being exclusive – there is at least one other company launching a HMD with their new 4k panels this year – will be interesting to see the completion between these and the CV1!
OVR are using dual screens for CB, so they may use dual 2k by 2k panels or a single 4k by 2k screen with dual drivers. HTC/Valve may also use the same panel(s) if the above is accurate.

The DK2 used a Specta7 VR7100 chip and S7 are making a VR7200 chip that can help drive dual 2560x1400@80Hz panels. If OVR is using the new chip, we can speculate CV1(and others) may be released with dual 2k or so panels.
