Samsung Gear VR

Post by Dilip »

Samsung Gear VR unveiled in unpacked event in Berlin. As it requires specificly GALAXY NOTE 4 only. IMHO its user base going to be a challenging task for Samsung Oculus Both.

There are obvious pros like all articles mentioned......

1) Root level access to phone CPU/GPU to oculus software designer.
2) OLED Display.
3) 60 Hz refresh rate.
4) Chances for low persistence.
5) High FoV of 95 Degree.
6) First device powered by oculus a true first consumer level product (They shy to call it innovator Edition though ;) ).

People also stated cons like......

1) Handling Calling Functions and Messages while in VR.
2) Tricky Docking.
3) pixelated video due to concentration on small part of screen to show video.
4) Slightly Bulky.
5) Poor Audio.
6) Expected to be expensive device.

Apart from lack of apps from 3rd party. which will be vary well handled by Oculus_Samsung
Still question remains lockdown to only NOTE 4 will really make initial investment high. Add price of
Gear VR and you will end up in something most likely to be twice as expensive as OR CV1.

There is also threat from LG Stables

which is going to be just 99$

Of course they will surely not have such latency level Samsung Can offer, App side to going to be Cardboard App Dependent
but sure its going to have app sooner due to expanding frontiers of cardboard

Sadly i have no where seen any review of this product with details on quality.
Not many articles out there in wild.

On redit i found a review of user who tried LG G3 with GOOGLE CARDBOARD and he did mentioned
seeing heavy pixelation.

http://www.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/2 ... the_lg_g3/

Rather a perspective as if he could compare it with other phones like nexus5 or nexus4 what is level of pixelation he could found.
what he might say for DK1 then.

Bewildered with 'VR Renascence' we are heading towards at FTLS.
