"iO Moon" Sci-fi exploration(wip) Update #3 -caves,creatures

Post by HeadTrip »

Update #3 - Cave Systems, creatures and new Facebook page
I've added a few new screenshots of the deep, dank cave system...crawling with stuff...
Also a little behind the scenes of some 3D scanning I've done... All rocks and stalagmites are scanned from real objects or sculptures.

Check out the new facebook page for updates and give me your feedback or comments directly!
Thanks for checking it out!

Update #2 - Inside iOmoon (possible spoiler)

Here is a quick video showing some of what is planned for iOmoon's interiors. http://www.headtripgames.com/headtrips-blog it's also a great opportunity to introduce super talented artist, Ben Ridgway. Ben has such a unique design vision, I am honored to have him be a part of iOmoon. Ben has created the organic objects you see in this update, plantlike and flying creatures.

Quick gameplay footage showing where it's heading, hopefully you dig it :)
watching this on the Rift is cool, but Pro level... its tough since you are not in control.
I also added some screens that you can download as a zip, so you can look at it in 1080p on the Rift

"iO moon"
I would like to announce the development of "iO moon" for Oculus Rift / VR headsets.
It's still very early, so I thought it was a great time to share and gather feedback.
I will be posting much more as we progress, hopefully a video by this weekend.
Hope you dig it... sorry I was late to post it here, much love for MTBS3D

What kind of game do you intend this to be? Visually it looks stunning. Looking forward to hearing more, and seeing it in motion.

Thank you! It is about exploration and survival. This is the first scene...Don't want to spoil anything... It will be cinematic in the use of music and mood to hopefully really immerse the player.

The view is from inside a space helmet the whole time? That sounds cool and immersive. Do you have plans for a hud system for that helmet? I personally think gui's are annoying in VR, but in the glass of a helmet like that might actually work, especially if there was a slight reflection off another layer of glass. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. Is this going to be less horror survival than just survival? There were some ps2 games like disaster report that weren't survival horror, you just had to stay alive in a disaster. It was kind of boring but the idea had a lot of potential I think, especially for VR. Things you have to figure out to save your life. Like playing a suspense movie in a disaster situation in VR.

I don't really want to spoil, no there won't necessarily be a helmet the entire time. There could be an interior to this moon . Plus we will have to see what the final FOV target will be. The contrast between on and off is cool, when it's off you feel like you got a boost in FOV, but you lose that cool close 3D depth cue. I do have a wip HUD with air and heat meters, so far Huds that are temporary seem to work best. It's a treat when they pop up, really punches up the 3D effect, but could get in the way unless minimal and offset. I would like to get a reflection on the glass, reflecting some interior bits. So far it's more exploration and experience than horror, more like high intensity moments rather than horror.

Looks great! Subscribed and that kind of thing - definitely keeping an eye on this. Looks like a great title for showing people how amazing VR can be.

Awesome, thanks guys... Yeah, I got a great feeling when I added the floating credit in the opening, like the way Fringe camera tracked their credits into the scene... I live for scifi, so it's a dream to actually build a place to explore... My favorite star treks are when they beam down. :) Thanks for subscribing, I hope it works hehe. Not a web guy...

This is ridiculous! Watched it on my rift and I loved it! I really cannot wait to try it out myself. Imagine doing a game for other moons / planets as well at this level of detail.........

Thank you for sharing!

That's cool! You know that's a great point, there are many moons around Jupiter... Other planets and of course all the new exomoons that are being discovered every day. I like to imagine what's inside them ;)
Check out the 1080p screens in the rift, closer to what it should look like

Oooh, reminds me of some of the Zen environments from Half Life 1. Will we have long jump boots? :D
Definitely a project I'll be keeping tabs on, this looks great - and good to show to game virgins.

I love how vibrant and colourful you're making the scenes. That's going to look soooooo nice on the OLED :)

Any chance we could get a nice little teaser demo for the lucky ones that have a rift already?

I wish I could, there's a bug with DX11 that causes lag in head tracking, drunken tracking. I have it set close but can't release anything with less than perfect tracking. I'll have to wait for a fix or DK2. I've tried oculus but it must be low priority... Sorry

Oculus, please fix it!

This will be something worth demoing with the rift.

For every 10 demo or games out there it seems only 1 or 2 are worth the download time.
Spreading excitement of the capabilities of the rift helps VR in the long run! Keep up the good work.

Sometimes its kind of a downer when someone wants to charge 15 or 20 bucks for a game which ends up being a 10 minutes glorified demo. I think people forget VR is still a work in progress and not a market yet. But with a demo...it makes it easier to get someone to buy the full version:)

Yes, I would love to put a demo, it would need to be polished. Its just not yet...
I'm curious what tweaks I'll have to make with DK2, will my head need a separate collision that pushes the body away when you lean too far into a wall? How wide will I need to make tunnels, or how tight... I CANNOT wait for the OLED as well. Fun challenges...
